What we’re about
Welcome to The Surrey and Hampshire Photography Meetup Group. (formerly Hampshire Photography Friends)
The group was established in 2012 and since then has been the platform for numerous photographic meetup events, and is popular with both established and new members. We are always looking to welcome new members so please join if you like what you see and would like to join in with our activities.
The aim of the group is simple - to meet with like minded photographers to share skills and experience, and to improve our skills in a friendly and social environment. Whether you are highly experienced or a newbie to photography you will be made very welcome. It doesn't matter what type of camera you have as anyone with any camera can take a good photograph.
Before you join please read the small print - by joining you are accepting these 5 statements.......These statements are purely to protect the group, its members, and to ensure that attendees of meetups take personal responsibility for themselves and actions.
- If I RSVP 'yes' to an event then I have a responsibility to attend unless I change my RSVP to 'No'. I accept that if I do not show on more than 1 occasion my membership of the group may be terminated.
- I will be polite and courteous to other members and will be respectful of their values and beliefs. I will not discriminate on the basis of people's ability, age, colour, race, sex, religion, sexuality or sexual identity.
- I accept responsibility for my own safety and security on all meetups with this group and accept that organisers of any meetups, or the group are not responsible for any accident, or loss incurred by me on a meetup.
- I accept that I am personally responsible for any damage or loss caused by myself to other people, property, or structures and any loss incurred by those people whilst I am attending a meetup and the organiser or group will not be held responsible for such actions or losses incurred.
- The organiser will cancel the membership of any member who is no longer active in the group, meaning any member who has not visited the website for a period of 6 months or more. This is purely to make the numbers more easily manageable. Those ex-members are welcome to re-join at any time.

See all- Winter Walk around RHS Wisley Gardens.RHS Garden Wisley, Woking£5.00
A new year and I hope it will be a happy one for everyone. A new year and a new start. What better way to help us move on than to take a winter walk together, along with our cameras, and what better a place than Wisley Gardens. At any time of year there is always a lot of things to photograph here and it is one of those places where every week there is something new to see and therefore photograph.
Don't expect rows and rows of bright flowers, but in winter there will be plants and trees starting to bud, new shoots starting to grow and possible some winter flowers such as snow drops and aconites as well as Hellebores. If we are lucky and it is sunny the low level light will be beautiful and cast long shadows. There may be frost on the ground or reflective puddles and there will be flowers to photograph, both in the Alpine House and the large warm Glasshouse. The cafes will be open and so we can 'grab' a warming drink and lunch to beat off those winter chills.
So we'll meet at 10.30 am on the paved area after the pay desks. If it is raining I would suggest meeting in the Food Hall which is near the entrance - turn right after entering the gardens.
Depending on the group size we can wander round as a group or agree to meet for coffee/lunch at a specified time.
As with all meetups please upload photos after the event. However as many of you may be aware Meetup.com has taken it upon themselves to revamp the photo galleries and in doing so we have lost the ability to make comments on individual photos. (They say this is temporary and have promised to reintroduce this feature by March!! - we'll see). There fore I would suggest uploading photos to the gallery on meetup but also to our Facebook group Facebook Group . If you are not a member of our facebook group then please join - you will need to request to join the group and when you do you must answer the entry questions or your request will be denied. It would be helpful if you also messaged me here on meetup.com to tell me that you have requested to join the Facebook group and to let me know what your 'name' is on Facebook as often it is different to Meetup. Once uploaded to Facebook other members can make comments about your photos and give constructive critique.
So this should be a fun day out and hopefully we can not only get some good winter shots but also catch up with each other and talk about our photography.
Don't forget this is winter and so it could be a bit rainy. So please come prepared with waterproofs/brollies. Great photos in the garden can be taken during rainy times with water droplets, puddle reflections etc.
Cost of the meetup is £5 cash on the day to me please for each member and guest coming, which will help pay for the use of the meetup website. Please try to have exact money as I won't have a lot of change.
Garden Entrance cost: £18.50.
I'll email my phone number nearer the time to those signed up.
Best Wishes and Happy New Year,
Peter
