~ 7 miles. Good but not crazy fast pace. A few small climbs. Combination of flat trail and a few rocks. Rating as moderate. Plan on sweating a little.
WEATHER (as of this writing): Wicked Nice (60's and partly sunny)
Blaze orange IS required on this hike. State land. DEM rules. You can get a vest in safety orange on Amazon or at Lowes or Home Depot for $10 or less. Per DEM it must be SAFETY orange (yes, it's a specific color).
APPROPRIATE CLOTHING PLEASE:
I've been a little lax on the last few hikes. No jeans. Hiking pants or athletic wear (under armour-esque) required. Wicking/breathable upper garments (no cotton). TRAIL SHOES or BOOTS required. This trail is not for sneakers and denim. Dress appropriately and you will be able to keep up and be comfortable.
Trailhead is behind the Johnston Fire Station on Hartford Ave (Rte 6).
Plug 2289 Hartford Avenue Johnston into your GPS. Using Snake Den Park as GPS destination has been known to bring people to wrong end of Hartford Ave. Don't know why - just is. 2289 Hartford Ave will bring you to a Johnston Fire Station - hiking entrance is directly behind the station. If you are going west on Rte 6, driveway to fire station is immediately after the station. There's a little bend, it comes up quick, be ready!
