What we’re about
This group is all about hiking with dogs! We mostly hike in the Sacramento foothills or high sierra east of Sac. We try to find places where the dogs can be off-leash responsibly. We limit the number of dogs that are allowed to join to keep the energy levels manageable and to make it easier to be off leash. We are not a fast paced hiking group. We take our time, enjoy the view, take pictures, chat and generally have a good time!
We do not allow dogs with prong collars or shock collars to attend our hikes.
We also do not allow dogs that are unaltered. All dogs must be spayed/neutered.
All hikers must clean up after their dog, pack it in-pack it out.

Caples Lake
caples lake, hwy 88, Alpine, CA, USDescription: Caples Lake Trail is moderately trafficked, mostly flat trail located near Kirkwood that features a lake and is rated as moderate. There are several locations for the dogs to get access to the water. We will hike to about the end of the lake, have some lunch, and return. We will likely stay on leash for the first part of the hike where it is narrow, then let them off where the trail widens out. We hike at a leisurely pace and take time for the dogs to play, take pictures and enjoy the scenery.
It will be chilly at 9:30am start, around 40 deg so be prepared for cold. It will warm up as we hike, high is 59.
Directions from Sacramento: Travel east on Highway 50, Follow US-50 E to Sly Park Rd in Pollock Pines. Take exit 60 from US-50 E. Take Mormon Emigrant Trail to CA-88 E for 30 miles. Parking is on the right just after you pass Kirkwood at the beginning of the lake.
