What we’re about
We are the premier Baltimore Hiking group with over 8,000 members.
This group is for all those who are dedicated to hiking, biking, camping, and any other fun outdoor activity in and around Baltimore whether in the natural areas or urban settings. We offer a range of activities at different times and locations, and encourage all members to make suggestions or plan and lead events.

Upcoming events (1)
See all- #18 - Gunpowder Hereford area, Mingo Forks & Hemlock Grove - 5+ miles - Moderate137 Mt Carmel Rd Parking, Parkton, MD
This is hike #18 of 18 in the Gunpowder Falls State Park system. Talk with Wayne if you want to do the park completion challenge. This hike is rarely offered so if you want to complete the challenge, do your best to attend this hike.
Please bring water, a good attitude and fun stories and conversation to share on a lovely hike!
We will probably grab lunch at a nearby restaurant after the hike.
This will be a loop hike with some extra out and back along the river to reach about 5-6 miles total length. I have done parts of this hike over the years, but I don't think I have done the entire loop so this is partly new for me too! There are a few steep hills but the majority is rolling hills. The trails in the highlands are well worn and maintained. Some of the trails along the riverside are more overgrown and rugged.
We will meet at the Mt Carmel Park N Ride lot. From there we will walk a few hundred feet West to the trail entrance along Mt Carmel Road
Plan on some small stream crossings but I cannot recall how many. Terrain is rocks, roots, mud and mostly hard packed trail likely with a lot of overgrowth and some thorns.
Please bring plenty of water. Also bring snacks if you get hungry easily.
We will step off at 10:00AM. The standard 15 minute grace period.
Dogs are welcome on this hike but they must be well behaved and on lead at all times.
Long hiking pants are highly recommended! Sneakers can work but hiking shoes or boots are recommended.

Covid and general disclaimers....
A quick reminder that this is my hobby, I am doing this for fun and to socialize, get exercise, be in nature and meet cool new people. Please set your expectations and if you are expecting no risk and professionally run events, this may not be a good fit for you. I want to have fun and share my passion for the outdoors and I want you all to enjoy yourselves too. No bad attitudes please. :)
As with all our events please remember that you are responsible for your own safety. There are the typical risks for any outdoor event plus we are in a pandemic. I cannot eliminate all risk for those who attend this event and you must take responsibility for yourself but I will do my best to use common sense best practices to try and minimize our risks.
If you have recent symptoms of covid or any other respiratory illness or been in close proximity to those who have please do NOT come to this event.
