We are the premier Baltimore Hiking group with over 9,000 members.
This group is for all those who are dedicated to hiking, biking, camping, and any other fun outdoor activity in and around Baltimore whether in the natural areas or urban settings. We offer a range of activities at different times and locations, and encourage all members to make suggestions or plan and lead events.

This moderate hike will allow you to see scenic trails along with getting the benefits of fresh air and exercise. We will start @ 5:45 pm with a medium pace, which will our team to stay together and have ample time to appreciate this park's beautiful surroundings. Definitely bring a great attitude and come with water. This hike is cross posted with other meetup groups.

NOTE: There are a few fun hills over 100 feet tall (Estimated - Elevation Gain @ 600 - 750 feet), and some stream crossings. Terrain is mostly hard packed trail with some grounds encompassing tree roots and rocks. This is a hike for those who hike or walk at least 10 miles per week - and please RSVP only if you can maintain a medium pace and navigate through stream crossings & up and down hills - THANKS.
SUGGESTED HIKING MATERIALS:
- Long hiking pants, hiking shoes or hiking boots are highly recommended. However, trail running shoes or sneakers with treads can work.
- Hiking/trekking poles (optional).
- 2 liters of water
- Insect repellant
- Sunscreen.

RSVP GUIDELINE: Only RSVP if you intend to make the hike a priority, not just an option. Specifically, it is Not fair to take a confirmed spot, then cancel less than 48 hours in advance, limiting your Hiking Around Baltimore members' in “waitlist” status the potential to participate! We assess late cancellations and no shows in determining participation for future events.
WHY WE VOLUNTEER: Your organizers are volunteers and we are sharing our passion for the outdoors. We organize events for fun, to socialize, get exercise, experience nature and meet cool new people. No bad attitudes please. :)

- Patapsco State Park Hilton Area & Matthews: Slightly Moderate 5 MilesPatapsco State Park, Catonsville, MD
Walk beside a stream with scenic views of water cascading over rocks. A few hills and a nice valley. We hike to a Scenic Overlook of Patapsco Park and River and view an area where trains emerge from the tunnels.
Directions from I695:
Take I695 Exit 13 Frederick Ave West towards Catonsville. In a few miles, take a left at South Rolling Rd (Light). In 100 yards, take a right at the fork to Hilton Ave. Proceed on Hilton for about 1.5 miles and take a right into the park entrance. Take the first right turn to shelter 245 and park on the lot.
Directions from Old Town Ellicott City:
Take Frederick Rd from Old Town EC for a few miles and make a right on South Rolling Road (Light). Note: you will pass North Rolling Road (Do not turn there!). In 100 yards, take a right at the fork to Hilton Ave. Proceed on Hilton for about 1.5 miles and take a right into the park entrance. Take the first right turn to shelter 245 and park on the lot.

- Loch Raven Glen Ellen & Hightopps Restaurant: Mostly Flat, Moderate 9 MilesLoch Raven Reservoir- Seminary, Towson, MD
The Loch Raven, Glen Ellen area starts out by going along the waterfront for several miles with scenic views of Loch Raven. We will stop for lunch at a scenic overlook. The terrain is relatively flat and the only reason that the hike is moderate is due to the distance of 9 - 10 miles.
Directions: Take I695 to Dulaney Valley Rd (Exit 27B) away from downtown Towson. Make a Left at Seminary (Light) and immediately park on either side of the road in front of the Church.
Optional: Hightopps Backstage Grille located at 2306 York Rd. Diversified menu available: see online. From Seminary Ave go toward York Rd and make a Right on York Rd. Go about 1 - 2 miles and Hightopps located on the Left Hand Side.
Bring plenty of water, lunch/snacks, and comfortable hiking shoes.

- Bike Ride: Easton to Oxford to St. Michaels and Back; Flat 32 MilesYMCA of Talbot County, Easton, MD

Directions to Bike Ride: Meet at YMCA in Easton: 11:00 AM
Take 50 East over the Bay Bridge, then Right at Rt 322, then Left at Peach Blossom Rd (Rt 333). YMCA on Right Hand Side. Make a right at Hayward Ave next to YMCA and park on the side of the road. Do not to park in the YMCA Parking Lot.Come out for a beautiful, flat ride going from Easton to Oxford to St. Michaels! Enjoy lunch in the Park in Oxford overlooking the Tred Avon River and take the ferry across the river. There's a deli with good sandwiches across from the park for take out orders. Ride is flat and about 32 miles round trip.
We will meet at the Easton YMCA at 11AM and ride to Oxford ( 9 -10 Miles) then take ferry across the Tred Avon River and ride to St. Michael's. The ferry is $8 for bikes (round trip). Meet at Justine's Ice Cream Parlor in St. Michaels (Talbot St & Mill St). Enjoy an ice cream or soda at the mid way point and sit outside on the picnic tables. Do the reverse ride from St. Michaels to Oxford to Easton YMCA on the ride back.
Road, hybrid or mountain bike are all good.
There are wide shoulders, but because there can be traffic, HELMETS ARE REQUIRED.
