What we’re about
This group is to organise hiking daytrips from Geneva with a historical theme. I'm basing these on suggestions found in a local historical publication called Passé Simple. The hikes are meant to be reachable via public transport (Geneva train station) and of easy to medium difficulty (2 to 5 hours).
I'm not a professional guide, just an enthusiast :)

Hello!
Let’s meet this Sunday to escape the heat a bit and hike up the Gorges de l’Areuse and visit the Mines d’Asphalte near Travers, above Neuchatel.Let’s meet at the Champ-du-Moulin station at 11:00. I’ll be on the Geneva train leaving Geneva at 09:05, travelling via Renens and Neuchatel. Most of this hike will be along a path following the Gorges de l’Areuse and its cascading stream, which should feel significantly cooler than most of Switzerland. You can find more info on https://gorgesdelareuse.ch
We then arrive at Noiraigues and the Val de Travers, a valley that we follow until we get to the Mines d’Asphalte. This is a significant industrial and historical site for the region that today can be visited and hosts refreshments, https://www.mines-asphalte.ch
We then take a train back from the station that is right there, La Presta Mines d'Asphalte. The hike should be around 3 and a half hours, with breaks and the visit we should be done and take the tran back between 4 and 5. As usual please come prepared for changes in weather and with water, snacks, etc. I am not a professional guide and decline responsibility for any incident.
