To cultivate a group of real people with a common love of the outdoors, we encourage respect and transparency toward other members.
To that end, please read and follow these guidelines:
- Before joining, you must post recognizable picture of yourself on your Hockley Valley Hiking profile your 'request to join' will be deleted. You will not be permitted to join the group without this profile picture. This is required so that we can recognize each other when we gather at the hiking location.
- This group adheres to all public health recommendations for safe outdoor social gatherings, which would also mean that we must limit the size of the hiking group for events.
- Given the limited spots, if you have committed to a hike, please show up on time. If for any reason you cannot attend, simply change your RSVP to 'Not Going' to kindly make room for someone else on the wait list. It only takes a few seconds.
- If you selfishly take a hiking spot and then do not show up, you will be noted as a no show.
- Your membership is subject to termination if you no show for an event with a wait list or after 3 incidents of no show.
- If you are on the wait list, DO NOT attend the event. You MUST have an RSVP.
- The organizer reserves the right to remove any member who does not meet the group's requirements.
Happy trails!

See all- Mono Cliffs to Splitrock NarrowsMono Community Centre, Mono, ON
Rising majestically above the surrounding countryside just north of Mono Cliffs Provincial Park is a beautiful example of prime Niagara Escarpment forests and meadows. The trail boasts rocky outliers, steep cliffs, several magnificent valley views, a glacial spillway, and an impressive crevice system. There is a 105m dead-end side trail following the floor of the Splitrock Narrows crevice. This feature was created by an effect known as cambering, a process that widens cracks into crevices through freeze-thaw action. 420 million year old crinoid fossils can also be found along the walls of the crevice.
From the parking lot, we will head north through Mono Cliffs Park. Along the Cliff Top Trail, we will stop at the lookout point, then onto a sturdy set of stairs which descend about 30m down the rock face to a wooden path that runs between the cliff and a small outlier, providing excellent views of the rock, ferns, and cedars. Then continue along the Bruce Trail, pass McCarston’s Lake, onto 2nd Line EHS and into Splitrock Narrows where the trail slopes into a cool, moss-covered crevice. We will stop for lunch and turn around.
Splitrock NarrowsMono Cliffs and Splitrock Narrows are Natural Hazard Areas. They contain fissures, crevices and cliffs, all of which are dangerous and may be hidden. Stay on the marked trail at all times.

- Mono Tract Forest - ExploratoryMono Community Centre, Mono, ON
Ruffed grouse and white-tailed deer keep you company in this nice pine, spruce and mixed hardwood forest. Located in a Dufferin County forest, this tract follows old logging roads. It’s not a difficult hike, but do not expect perfectly groomed trails. Although not a developed recreational area, it is pleasant for a quiet walk. The trails are great for birding, hiking and mountain biking, and it's unlikely you'll encounter many other people while exploring.
Mono Cliffs and Mono Tract Forest are Natural Hazard Areas. They contain fissures, crevices and cliffs, all of which are dangerous and may be hidden. Stay on the marked trail at all times.
This is an exploratory hike and we will navigate the trail together. Expect detours, a few wrong turns, unforeseen trail closures, unintentional trail blazing and who knows what else. This will be another new adventure.
