Walking in Huddersfield - your friendly local rambling community. Nearly all our guided walks are open to Meetup members to join and enjoy. Don't be put off if it looks like not many people have signed up for our walks on Meetup - there will be plenty of people there!
We're the Huddersfield Group of the Ramblers' Association. Our packed programme includes:
- An A grade walk every Sunday, usually 10-13 miles
- On many Sundays, a B grade walk, usually 6-9 miles
- Monthly A+ grade walks on Saturdays for those who enjoy something more energetic!
- Summer evening walks of up to 5 miles on Tuesdays
Our See walks (C-grade walks), offering an easy monthly Saturday walk of 4 to 5 miles, especially aimed at families, those looking to become more active or to return to fitness, and people new to walking with us.

Huddersfield Group's walks offer an opportunity to get to know our wonderful walking area guided by our experienced and knowledgeable leaders. Our walks are often in the beautiful countryside around Huddersfield, sometimes further afield. They offer a mixture of the hills and moors of the South Pennines, Peak District or Yorkshire Dales, and lower level pastureland and valleys, often taking in the rivers, canals and historic architecture that defines the district.
In general, our walks are on rural footpaths and bridleways, with road walking kept to a minimum. Our more strenuous walks sometimes cross more difficult terrain such as rough moorland away from defined paths. We also occasionally do more urban walks, taking advantage of the green spaces and ginnels in our local towns.
We are a friendly group, and like to finish our walks with a sociable drink together. Our lively social scene includes meals out, events and holidays.
We care about our footpath network, and work with Kirklees Council, our local authority, and other volunteer groups to protect these.

- On all walks you will need to bring something to eat and drink. Excess food is recommended on longer walks in winter and you should ensure you have plenty to drink in summer.
- Check the weather forecast beforehand, and ensure that you are wearing or carrying suitable clothing for the likely conditions (and remember they may be changeable). In summer, make sure that you have adequate protection from the sun.
- Dogs may be brought unless stated otherwise. However, if cattle are met, the walk leader may ask you to allow the main party to cross the field first, leaving you to follow on with your pet. Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times.
- If you need to leave the walk at any time, or if any untoward circumstances occur (e.g. illness or injury during the walk) please inform the walk leader.
- For the well-being of individuals and the group, the walk leader may decline to take anyone on a walk who they consider to have unsuitable clothing or footwear for the conditions, or who is thought by the leader unlikely to be able to cope with the pace or length of the walk.
