What we’re about

We are a diverse and friendly bunch who love books, reading, and chatting about books, reading, and everything in between.

During the session, we discuss the last book we’ve chosen, and put forward suggestions for the next one. We then choose the next book using a randomiser.

The vibe is informal, and you do not need to have read the entire book to come along. That said, if you haven’t finished it, expect all of the spoilers!

Respectful discussion and debate is encouraged, and the range of genres and topics reflects the diversity of the group, which helps keep things fresh and intriguing🍋

Time and place

We meet every month (usually the first Monday, unless it’s a Bank Holiday) at 7pm for a 7.30pm start, with a break halfway. The events ‘end’ at 9pm, but a number of us stay afterward to socialise.

Our venue is the Thomas Wolsey - a cosy Tudor pub on St Peter’s Street in the ‘Saints’ area of Ipswich. We meet in one of the upstairs rooms - please check with the bar staff on arrival if you’re unsure.

Free parking is available right outside if you're lucky, otherwise Cromwell Square and Cardinal Park car parks are close by.

Ipswich railway station and Tower Ramparts and Cattle Market bus stations are also within walking distance.

Who can join?

All ages and backgrounds are welcome - we are an inclusive group.

The event is completely free to club members, and although most of us buy a drink from the bar, it’s not compulsory.

To become a member, please use your real name (first name at least) on your profile, and have an identifiable picture of you in your avatar (profile pic), before you click ‘join’.

This helps us to welcome new members, while also keeping everyone safe.

Want to ask something?

If you have any questions about the group, please get in touch with the host, Beren, on Meetup.

Otherwise, we look forward to meeting (and reading with) you soon🙂

And, if you like films, you can join our sister club - Ipswich Film Club, which meets on 3rd Monday of each month.
