Ahoy! Join the Jacksonville Sailing Meetup Group for an fun afternoon of sailing and a cookout afterwards, sponsored by the Rudder Club of Jacksonville.
All are welcome from complete newbies to experienced ocean sailors. Non Rudder Club Skippers are welcome too, overnight docking, a ramp, tent camping and parking are available for free.
Sail as a passenger just enjoying the ride while sipping a cocktail or take our encouragement to learn some fundamentals of sailing. We will help you learn to hoist the sails, steer the boat, and learn to tack and jibe. We will also provide valuable safety tips to ensure your time on the water is enjoyable and worry-free.
Any boat owners wishing to join the group and bring their boat, please message me for details. We have docking, parking, and a ramp available for launching.
Everyone is welcome to join the Rudder Club's All American Cookout after our sail. Please RSVP to both events if attending both for a more accurate head count.
For sailing, feel free to bring a small cooler with your beverage of choice. Skippers appreciate drinks and food to share. Glass bottles are OK but no glassware cups, only plastic or metal please. Dress in layers, wear sunscreen and only sneakers or nonskid shoes. (No heels) If you wear a hat, chose one with a strap or a cap you don't mind losing; they do get blown off at times.
We will meet at 12:30, get oriented, do a safety briefing and set sail about 1:00. We anticipate returning to the dock between 3:00-4:00 PM. The party after sailing has no set end time; all are welcome to hang out into the night for fun and socializing.
The club bar will be open from 12:00 - 7:00 PM. No outside alcohol is permitted on club grounds during bar hours. BYOB on boats is fine.
If the Sailing Meet-Up fills up, do enter the waitlist. We are sending out a call for skippers now and hope to expand the list as boats sign up. The Party Meetup as no attendee limit, so RSVP for the after party anytime.
