See all- Come up with a unique name for groups of paddlers. (Not a paddling event)Needs location
Hi all, this is not a Liquid Skies paddle but a survey for Cross Currents Sea Kayak. This virtual event is open until Oct 15, 2024. You are invited to vote. Please vote as all count:
Liquid Skies Invitation to Vote
The animal kingdom has cool names for groups (e.g., gaggle of geese; murder of crows, parliament of owls), but the sea kayaking world doesn't have anything except "group" or occasionally "pod". Liquid Skies members now have an opportunity to participate in a short survey to come up with a unique name for groups of paddlers.
Background
Recently a group of east coast paddlers – with people from Maryland, Virginia, Rhode Island and South Carolina - started a process of coming up with a name. They initially solicited potential names from a large group of paddlers. They got a robust response with a total of 53 entries. Then a group of eight judges voted in a two-step process and whittled the list down to five “candidates”. It's those names we are asking Liquid Skies members to vote on. (Other sea kayaking clubs are being invited to participate as well.) The candidate names are:- “Confluence” of kayakers
- “Wave” of kayakers
- “Knot’ of kayakers
- “Swell” of kayakers
- “Splash” of kayakers
The hope is that the “winning” name would begin to be used routinely in articles, trip reports, paddling magazines, etc.
The Survey
The survey has just two questions: 1) what’s your favorite name for a group of sea kayakers? and 2) what state are you from? It takes less than a minute to complete.
The link is here: https://forms.gle/oBaxeoLh8isbuGwm8
The survey is open until October 15th . All responses are confidential. We are asking for state names so that we can give people an idea of the extent of participation in the survey when we announce the results. The results will be announced here and on other club’s websites and meet-up pages.
We hope you’ll participate. One vote per person, please!
