Lakeland Long Distance Walkers Association

This event is currently full, with a waiting list. However MeetUp members may be interested to know that the group arranges this Challenge Event consisting of a 23.5 mile circuit in the Lyth Valley, starting in Kendal and visiting Cunswick Fell, Whitbarrow Scar and Scout Scar. There are 3 checkpoints at which food and drink are available. There is a charge for this event and entry is through SI entries. Make a note for 2026, and better still, have a look at the similar concept Spring in Lakeland event on 6th April 2025.

This will be a 15 mile walk, starting and finishing outside the Strickland Arms, near the entrance to Sizergh castle. Grid reference SD501873, postcode LA8 8DZ. Your leaders on the day will be Ken and Jenny Wyles.
The walk will depart at 09:00, and the finishing time shown is approximate as it depends on those attending.

This is a lovely route with an interesting Quaker history. We will complete part A, from Barley to Arncliffe, over 2 days, with minibus transport arranged by the group. On Saturday we will walk 16 miles from Barley, and on Sunday 14 miles finishing in Arncliffe. Start location and times, and bus pickup locations to be confirmed. You are welcome to join both or either day. Your leaders will be Nicky Wood and Ian Scott.

Unfortunately this event is currently fully booked by LDWA members and previous contestants, but there is a waiting list you can join. Possibly for future reference, details are as follows.
This is a Challenge Event through scenic Lake District countryside, starting and finishing at Ambleside Parish Centre, LA22 9DH.(GD NY374044) visiting Loughrigg Tarn, Skelwith Bridge, High Tilberthwaite, Coppermines Valley, Coniston, Tarn Howes and returning to Ambleside via the Cumbria Way. In all, 24 miles and 400 feet of ascent. Navigational skills required. There will be limited catering at checkpoints: please bring a mug. Runners and walkers are welcome. Regrettably no dogs allowed as it is lambing time in the Lakes. Parking in public car park in Ambleside- charges apply. Strictly no parking in the church or Parish Centre grounds. All to finish by 17:30, and a cut off will apply at Skelwith Bridge, at 15:00.
