Lansing Photo Meetup

Halloween Themed Model shoot at Mark's studio. Now doesn't that sound like FUN! I have recruited four experienced models to dress up for us and do makeup. There will be two possibly three studio sets and, if weather permits, an outdoor setting.

There wont be room for tripods. It might get a little cozy depending on how many photographers show up. My studio is 20X60 feet.

I should have enough lighting equipment for three settings. If you have a studio strobe or large LED panel you are willing to share please bring it. (Preferably LED.)

Polish up your AI Background skills in Photoshop for some really fun stuff!

I would like to pass the hat to contribute to the models. They are spending money on makeup and costumes. So have a few dollars in your pocket.

Be sure to RSVP! I have to limit to no more than 14 photographers because of space.

Briefly the curriculum involves four general areas:

1. Basics of owning a camera including care, safety, exchanging lenses, understanding what focal length is, and brief overview of accessories.

2. Exposure covers the three basic controls: ISO/Aperture(f-stops)/Shutter Speed. How does each element impact your image and when/how to make adjustments. 3. How to use the pop up flash effectively.

3. Knobs and Dials on a digital camera are overwhelming until you get introduced. We will go over ALL of them and when to/not to use them.

4. Composition. Once we understand some of the technical fundamentals its time to put that knowledge to work. Usually the last couple of hours are spent outside roaming Old Town and getting some practice. We also learn to refine how we see a photo and how "making" a photo differs from just "taking a picture." If the weather is challenging, we have excellent indoor alternatives. Contrary to most of the Meetups, I am going to have to charge something for this because of the time and resources involved in offering it. We have a no-host working lunch at one of the Old Town restaurants.

NOTE: This same class is offered on 3 Monday evenings from 6:30-8:30 (First three Mondays of the month)

This is the placeholder announcement. Check back for this month's current event. We meet every third Wed of the month at 6:30 to engage in some kind of photographic creative project. Weather/Season is always a variable. Take a look at the Group Gallery to get a better idea of the things we do.

We are a group of photographers who have a passion for creating great photos. ALL skill levels and equipment are welcome. Even cell phones cameras! The only requirement is that you get excited about creating a great photo intentionally. Call me if there are any questions.
