Relaxed day hikes around four to five hours long, with a picnic break for lunch, on Saturdays or Sundays or maybe weekdays. We'll try to organise some hikes by car-sharing but I will try to organise as many as possible using buses and taxis only from Las Palmas, as it is a lot easier to organize this way and more relaxed.
Our group's first hike should take place in the autumn this year. I will then organize other hikes as frequently as possible, ideally every weekend. Other members will be able to organize hikes for the group too.
It is anticipated that all hikes will be free. I only do this for the purpose of pursuing my hobby in company and meeting new people this way.
I ran the Montpellier rando & plain air / hiking & outdoors Meetup group in France (which still exists) for 5 years, organising a hike almost every weekend over that period, and then since the end of 2018 I have been running the Lisbon hiking Meetup group in a similar fashion.
I am planning to move to Las Palmas this year in the autumn and I would like to start a similar group in the Canarian capital.
I have already done enough research and made trips to the island to convince myself that Gran Canaria is a world-class location for hiking, and I will continue to gather documentation and identify suitable hikes for our group, which I will test before proposing them to the group.
I will try to keep the difficulty level reasonably low and and use predominantly "official" routes as I don't seek "challenges" particularly, more relaxation in nature and good company, and above all I want to avoid taking risks with my own and the participants' safety as much as possible.
