We're out east today starting in Whitechapel and finishing at Stepney Green.

From one of London's oldest hospitals where we look at some very basic preparations for surgery in the 1700s, to the role it played in the life of the Elephant Man.

We visit the People's Palace which sought to bring education to the workers at the end of the 19th century, great mansions from earlier times when this was a very desirable area even for East India Company directors and the church of St Dunstan's where one of the country's first vegan is buried in its ancient churchyard.

We'll see the Kray's favourite pub and find out why it's called the Blind Beggar, the site of the legendary siege of Sidney Street and where General Booth made his name as saviour of the poor and head of the Salvation Army and the Charrington's owner and his seeing the right path. There's even social housing of all shapes and sizes and splendind water fountains.

Join Tim on a walk through Wapping, enjoying wonderful river views and a fascinating history going back to the seventeenth century and beyond. This is all about London's Docks; the foundation of the City's wealth for 2000 years. We'll see how, where and why the docks developed, why they closed and what has taken their place. We'll start at Tower Hill and after a leisurely couple of miles in a couple of hours we'll end in a riverside pub overlooking the Thames - for those who want.

We'll meet inside the lobby of the Citizen M Hotel next to Tower Hill Station at 10.45 for an 11 am start and should get to the Wapping pub by about 1pm. Wapping Overground station will easily get you to the Jubilee or District lines.

Join Tim as we follow in the footsteps of Henry VIII, a fair few wives and lots of martyrs as we retrace England's break with the Catholic Church. It's often told as a story of a randy king having the hots for pretty girls but in reality this was all about power and faith. We'll retrace some of the great events of this schism and see where this story played out in London. We'll visit monasteries and execution sites, centres of religious power and atheist pubs.

We meet at Artigiano cafe in the shadow of St Paul's,the great Anglican centre of power at 11.15 to start walking at 11.30
We end for lunch in one of the historic pubs of London.
In between you'll see some of the great sights of Tudor London.
