Do you love reading as much as we do? Do you find yourself finishing a book and wanting to share the experience? Do you miss the student experience of reading a book and discussing the deeper meaning and implications with a group?
We meet once a month, usually in private homes where we share a delicious pot luck buffet, to discuss our latest selection. The location varies, but is generally in the Santa Monica/Westwood area. If this sounds like you, join our book club!

See all- LA LitFan Meetup for Sept: JuliaLink visible for attendees
For September, we'll be discussing Julia by Sandra Newman, a retelling of Orwell's 1984 from the point of view of Winston's lover Julia.
The meeting is tentatively set for 5 PM via zoom, but may move to 3 PM for in-person/hybrid.
From Amazon (https://amzn.to/4lQd494):
Set in 1984, Julia Worthing is a mechanic, working in the Fiction Department at the Ministry of Truth. All her life, Julia has known only Oceania, and until she meets Winston Smith, she has never imagined anything else. She is an ideal citizen: cheerfully cynical, always ready with a bribe, piously repeating every political slogan while believing in nothing. She routinely breaks the rules, but also collaborates with the regime when necessary. Everyone likes Julia. Then one day she finds herself walking toward Winston Smith and impulsively slips him a note, setting in motion the devastating, unforgettable events of the classic story. Julia takes us on a surprising journey through Orwell’s now-iconic dystopia, with twists that reveal unexpected sides not only to Julia, but to other familiar figures in the 1984 universe. This unique perspective lays bare our own world in haunting and provocative ways, just as the original did almost seventy-five years ago.

The meeting is tentatively set for 5 PM via zoom, but could potentially move to 3 PM for in-person/hybrid.

The House of Mirth is a sharp, brutal, and destructive tragedy which tells the story of Lily Bart, a well-born but impoverished woman belonging to New York City's high society in the 1890s. The story traces Lily's slow two-year social descent from privilege to a lonely existence on the margins of society.
