Folks,
This is our signature scenic/club drive. Also, the last drive of the year!
Feel free to bring along guests such as family and friends. If you had fun in our last meetup, you'll have a blast in this one!
Please, read all of the below and RSVP to avoid getting left behind. We will be on time for this drive due to its length.
We are meeting in front of Dunkin' Donuts (14631 Lee Hwy, Centreville, VA 20121) to gather up and get some coffee/food/gas and then drive out towards Shenandoah National Park (Skyline Dr.). We will enter the park via Skyline Dr from the middle.
Where and when:
In front of Dunkin' Donuts at 8:00 am and will leave by 8:45 am towards Skyline Dr (mandatory drivers’ meeting at 8:30 am).
Logistics:
You would usually take 66 all the way to Skyline Dr., but that would be boring and not fun. Hence, we will switch between 66 and side/fun roads to keep the drive to Skyline Dr fun and entertaining (and more scenic).
This will make the trip slightly longer, but more fun. We will stop by a Shell gas station (12663 Lee Hwy, Washington, VA 22747) right before we enter the park so we can refuel, refresh, stretch, and go to the restroom. The park (Skyline Dr) is our main attraction. We will go through a great and fun winding road with great sceneries all around.
We will pull over at an overlook for pictures and rest. Ultimately, we will reach a place to hang out, eat, and talk about cars (the trip from Shell to the resting place should not take more than 1 hour).
After that, we will break and conclude our meetup. We will make two stops on Skyline drive. The 2 places at which we will stop are as follows (if these are closed or overcrowded, we’ll bypass them):
- Stoney Man Overlook (on Skyline after about 8 miles)
- Lewis Mountain Campground (on Skyline after about 18 miles from above stop) – last checkpoint (final driving point)
We will cover about 90+ miles for this whole trip and we could be driving about 4+ hours overall. Please, refuel and rest well.
Food and drink:
Even though the park will have grills, please bring cold food and your own drinks for a quick lunch. We are not planning to grill food there. We can get snacks and food from the Shell Station as well if needed.
Ground Rules:
We will have a drivers' meeting before the drive at 9:30 am and all drivers must attend that meeting. We are doing a drive not a race or performance driving on public roads with public cars and passengers. Please, keep your racy attitude and craving for our track days that we have on our calendar.
Any stupid behavior (such as unnecessary revving, burnouts, tailgating, and any crowd-attracting maneuvers) will get you permanently banned and booted out of the group at the scene. We may have designated lead drivers depending on participation, but Google Maps is your best bet.
Fee:
We strongly suggest you buy the entry ticket online to ease the entry to beat the traffic at the gate: https://www.recreation.gov/sitepass/74293
There will be a $30 per car entering the park unless you already have a week pass or have military-related identification. When you purchase a pass, it will be available for a week to be reused if interested.
Please, note that point Shell station (12663 Lee Hwy, Washington, VA 22747) we will be stopping at before entering the park. After entering the park, we will basically follow the route to find a good spot to eat while stopping at the 2 stops for pictures and rest.
Please, read and understand the requirements below!
Requirement 1:
We are responsible drivers on public roads. Hence, you must attend the mandatory drivers' meeting (at 8:30 am) we will have before the drive on time in order to drive with our club. See Ground Rules below. All drivers must attend. If you miss the meeting, you will be rejected the drive unless you have been part of our drives before and you know the drill.
Requirement 2:
You must have the Google Maps app installed on your phone for multi-destination guidance and launch the app via the link in the description above. We may have lead drivers for guidance, but the app will guarantee your routing success as this drive's route can get tricky with overlaps.
Requirement 3:
A BMW, M, and sports cars only event. If you are not sure about your car, just contact the host. We can make a one-time courtesy allowance if coordinated with the host in advance.
Requirement 4:
No advertising or member solicitation of any kind is allowed during this meetup. If you are planning to advertise your business or your affiliates in this meetup, please, contact the event host for sponsorship opportunities in advance or please, avoid coming to the meetup with that agenda.
