What we’re about
MLTO: Machine Learning Toronto is a community for data and AI professionals in the Greater Toronto Area. Our mission is to create a group of like-minded individuals to build networks authentically, learn from industry experts, and share knowledge in free and open events focused on genuine connection, learning, and discussion around developments in AI. We believe that by bringing together individuals from diverse backgrounds, we can create a space that promotes learning and growth in the field for the benefit of all involved.

Talk #1 - Beatrice Bu, Senior ML Engineer @ Bitstrapped - How Multimodal Agents Will Replace Traditional Computer Vision
Beatrice will explore how multimodal agents are set to revolutionize traditional computer vision approaches. Drawing from their practical experience implementing vision systems at Bitstrapped, they'll discuss the limitations of conventional CV pipelines and demonstrate how integrating multimodal capabilities creates more robust, contextually-aware systems. Attendees will learn about the architectural differences between traditional CV and multimodal agent approaches, practical implementation considerations, and real-world performance comparisons. Beatrice will share insights on when organizations should consider transitioning to agent-based vision systems and the challenges they might encounter along the way.Talk #2 - Christophe Zoghbi, Founder & CEO at ZAKA AI - Painting With Code: The Tech Behind Image Generation
As generative AI models continue to redefine how we create and consume visual content, one crucial question remains: whose stories are being told — and whose are being left out? In this talk, Christophe will explore the evolution of image generation technologies, from GANs to diffusion models and multimodal transformers. He'll break down how these systems work, what powers the best models today, and the critical role that data plays in shaping their outputs. Christophe will also share the inspiring mission behind The Middle Frame and how it’s now pioneering the development of the first culturally-aware, locally-trained AI image generator for the Arab world.About the speakers:
