
What we’re about
MAKE Roanoke is a non-profit makerspace in Roanoke, VA. MAKE Roanoke is entirely led and run by volunteers. We are located at 128 Albemarle Ave SE, B, Roanoke VA 24013. We don't have standard open hours, but instead give our membership key fobs to access the space whenever suits them.
Mission Statement
MAKE Roanoke exists to promote knowledge, skill, and creativity in science, technology, crafts, and the arts. We strive to foster these values in an inclusive and safe environment. To these ends, MAKE Roanoke shall provide the following:
An inclusive and collegial social framework for members to inspire and collaborate with others of similar interests;
A maintained communal space providing safe access to tools and supplies for projects; and
Events to promote education and collaboration between members and the greater Roanoke community.

You must RSVP to save your slot!
Completing this orientation will unlock the yellow level tools in the Wood Shop, including:
- Wood shop policies
- Manual and electric hand tools
- Belt and Disc Sander
- Drill Press
- Dust Collector
You must complete this orientation before being trained on any red level tools (saws, most bench tools, router table, etc)
Please note that MAKE Roanoke is an active workshop:
- All participants must have a signed waiver on file. If the participant is a minor, the wavier must be signed by a parent or court-appointed legal guardian. Waivers can be filled out ahead of time at https://mkroa.org/waiver
- Closed toed shoes are required in the space at all times by everyone, regardless of age or participation in an event. No sandals, crocs, or bare feet.
- You may be asked to remove or tuck in dangling jewelry, lanyards, etc for safety.
- Depending on the activity, other dress code rules may apply.

You must have already completed the Wood Shop Orientation and you must RSVP to save your slot!
Completing this orientation will unlock some of the red level tools in the Wood Shop, including:
- Jointer
- Planer
- Table Saw
- Miter Saw
- Router Table
- Scroll Saw
NOTE: We will not get to all the tools in 1 session, priority will be given to tools where multiple people want training. Multiple sessions will be needed to get fully signed off.
Preference on which tools are will be given to class attendees.

Orientations are expected to last about 15-20 minutes. Please comment the time you will arrive so we can group people accordingly, we can only train 5 people at a time.
Completing this orientation will get you access to the yellow tools in the Electronics portion of the Lab:

- Aoyue 9378 Soldering Iron
- Miniware TS100/101 Soldering Irons
- Rigol DS1102E Oscilloscope
- LeCroy 9345M Oscilloscope
