What we’re about
Formerly Manchester Comics Society, as someone whose adolescence consisted of delving into the worlds of graphical print and animation, originating from the Western and Eastern continents, I wish to expand this group to include manga and anime related social activities!
Some current idea's are to visit comic conventions, such as the long established annual Comic Con Manchester, and closely related anime cons within the city, with plans already underway to head to the Anime and Gaming Con at Sudgen Sports Centre. We'll be taking advantage of the odd occasion when a beloved bookstore hosts a new comic/manga series launch and author's Q&A talk. Catching the latest of anything still decent in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and cherry picking the good from the ugly in downtown DC. Brunches at Maid Cafe's and strolling around nerdy shops to pick up some much needed fan merch. Having nerdy discourse and debate at a gaming bar!
Even though it has experienced a massive surge in the past two decades, the culture revolving around cartoons is still a pretty niche one, so if anybody has any suggestions of what we could do as graphic novel enthusiasts and beyond, please let us know and it could soon feature as a future event!
If anyone is keen on organising events within a shared co-hosting role, please feel free to drop us a message about becoming an Events Organiser, we would love to have you on board!
Please be aware, photography will be taken at our events. If you wish to not be part of this, please let an organiser know.

- Charlie Simpson DJ Set: Pop Rock (Busted Afterparty) @ Gorilla (Fri 17th Oct)Grand Central Alt Bar & Live Music Venue, Manchester
Charlie Simpson? From Busted?! Why are we doing this?? Hold on to your horses, I hear ya. Ok so I was never keen on Busted, however when I was in my late teens Fightstar was one of the first metal gig's I ever went to, back when they were heavy heavy. It's nothing to do with those charming caterpillar eyebrows. Or the tantalising front tooth gap. I assure you! Why won't you believe me...
We'll start pre-drinking heavy at Grand Central from 9-11pm before making our way to Gorilla for a once in a long time Charlie Simpson DJ set party!
Nab your ticket for entry here before the crazy Busted fangirls buy them all! Charlie Simpson DJ set party ticket

Then team up with other n00bs of your kind and battle against other teams of the same rookie calibre to win in a completely random mini games tournament! Some great footage can be seen over here! <_<
"Join us for Manchester’s first amateur gaming league! It’s a pub quiz vibe with a gaming angle! Form your team of four pals and head down to sit in our cinema playing the best video games out there on our absolutely stellar cinema screen and gut churning sound system vying to beat out 11 other teams of gaming nerds in a series of mystery console and PC based challenges. This IS NOT a serious gaming tournament, this is a chance to bring back the glory days of couch gaming on an epic scale. We’re in it for the fun of it.
BUT HOW DOES IT ACTUALLY WORK?!
Book your team in using the links at the bottom of this page, turn up on the night at 7pm sharp to register your team, 7.30pm the first round begins and a random team will be up first having no idea what the first game will be, 7.31pm the game is revealed and the team will need to decide who from their team is going to be nominated to play, the rest of the teams jump on the couch and we play through the round, rinse and repeat for round 2,3 & 4 points are allocated for each round so at the end of the night a winning team will be crowned! IT’S AS SIMPLE AS THAT!
WHAT GAMES WILL WE BE PLAYING?
Who knows! What we can tell you is that we’ll be bringing games from the past 50 years right up to absolutely brand spanking new releases, there will be time trials, there will be high score battles, there will be head to head battles, there will be weird controllers, there will be blockbusters, there will be left field indie games and you won’t know what the games are until the very second the round begins.
HOW DO I BOOK ON AND HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
To make sure we get the best attendance levels possible, we’re introducing a £10 team booking fee.
