What we’re about
Formerly Manchester Comics Society, as someone whose adolescence consisted of delving into the worlds of graphical print and animation, originating from the Western and Eastern continents, I wish to expand this group to include manga and anime related social activities!
Some current idea's are to visit comic conventions, such as the long established annual Comic Con Manchester, and closely related anime cons within the city, with plans already underway to head to the Anime and Gaming Con at Sudgen Sports Centre. We'll be taking advantage of the odd occasion when a beloved bookstore hosts a new comic/manga series launch and author's Q&A talk. Catching the latest of anything still decent in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and cherry picking the good from the ugly in downtown DC. Brunches at Maid Cafe's and strolling around nerdy shops to pick up some much needed fan merch. Having nerdy discourse and debate at a gaming bar!
Even though it has experienced a massive surge in the past two decades, the culture revolving around cartoons is still a pretty niche one, so if anybody has any suggestions of what we could do as graphic novel enthusiasts and beyond, please let us know and it could soon feature as a future event!
If anyone is keen on organising events within a shared co-hosting role, please feel free to drop us a message about becoming an Events Organiser, we would love to have you on board!
Please be aware, photography will be taken at our events. If you wish to not be part of this, please let an organiser know.

See all- Jiluka @ Manchester Academy 3: Gig Social + Grand Central pub (Fri 20th June)Manchester Academy 3, Greater Manchester
I first stumbled across this band through a Youtuber last year who said they had the "Heaviest breakdown of the year" so naturally curiosity killed the cat before moving onto my eardrums, and it was an astonishing array of cathartic emotions! *o* You have been warned!!
Sub-genres: Deathcore, djent, visual kei
FFO: Lorna Shore, Paleface Swiss, The Gazette, Dir En Grey, Bloodstain Child
We can meet outside the Manchester Academy building for 7pm just before the door opens at 7:30 so we'll skip a bit of queuing, exact spot TBA on the evening. After the gig we can meet at Grand Central for a bit of post-gig socialising and maybe some dancing if you haven't knocked your feet off from all that moshing!
Latest single: KVLT
Great track: VEN0M
Personal favourite: Ablaze"JILUKA expresses a variety of emotions by combining their aggressive metal sound with diverse musical essences and utilizing striking, melodious music.
JILUKA made their first performance in the United States in October at Anime Weekend Atlanta 2023. A month later, it was revealed that they would play at Evil Live Festival in Lisbon, becoming the first visual kei band to perform in the country. Taking advantage of the festival date, the band announced their first world tour 2024 named K4RMA with five solo dates in Europe; in the cities of Warsaw, Bratislava, Cologne, Paris and London which all sold out, plus the Resurrection Festival in Spain / EVIL LIVE Fest in Portugal and a show in Los Angeles in July. Due to the success of K4RMA, they returned to Europe in September with "K4RMA - The Return", this time with 2 new countries: Italy and Finland, and finishing it with a show in China. A four-date tour in United States will begin in late October, 2024.
Now, JILUKA with EGM is taking over the world!!"

- Wazuzhi Ramen & Sushi Restaurant and Lost In Tokyo Bar Social (Sat 19th July)Wazuzhi Ramen & Sushi restaurant, Manchester
Refreshing chill sushi plates or a delectable bowl of pork broth ramen - the choice is yours at our first restaurant and drinks social! Take as many plates as you wish, each with a different price point coded by colour, slashing sushi off a conveyor belt by the way of the Samurai.
After we've sufficiently filled our bellies, we'll head over to Lost in Tokyo, Manchester's very own Izukaya, or what we would like to call the cocktail bar serving authentic Japanese whisky and old school favourites with a distinctly Nipponese flavour.
Feel free to join us for dinner or you can just meet us at Lost in Tokyo for drinks (please leave a comment if you are, you don't need to RSVP for this part).
Places are limited for the restaurant, please only RSVP if you are certain you are going, and change your RSVP if you are no longer attending so that others get a chance. Arrive promptly so we can arrange seating! This social is a joint one with the Manchester Metalheads Meetup where it is also limited to 6 on the event page.
