Join us for our last multi-day adventure of the year! We are riding to the southern Sierra to experience some fantastic roads and scenery along the Kern River, Lake Isabella, and the southern Sierra mountains!
The Kern River Valley, including Kernville and Lake Isabella has been inhabited by Tubatulabal and Piute Indians for thousands of years. In 1853 gold was discovered in the area and a gold rush ensued, bringing increased activity and development to the area. During the 1930's, 40's, and 50's many westerns were filmed in the area. Portions of modern films such as Thelma and Louise, Jurassic Park, Oceans 13, and Top Gun Maverick were filmed here too! In 1953 a dam was constructed across the Kern river to create Lake Isabella and help mitigate annual flooding in Bakersfield and the valley below.
Day 1: Meet at North County Indian at 07:30 for paperwork and briefing. Have a full tank and your bike thoroughly checked and prepared. KSU 08:00. Lunch in Lake Isabella at "Dam Korner". After lunch we will ride around Lake Isabella and up the north fork of the Kern River and return to Kernville for the night. Accommodations in Kernville are The Kernville Inn - (760)376-2206 or Riverview Lodge - (760)376-6019. Both of these are in town and everything is within walking distance (food, bar, park etc...)
Day 2: We will ride the south fork of the Kern river (the road that is, not the river!), taking in more beautiful vistas of the river. Where the river hits the valley floor we will make 2 large loops on Breckenridge rd, Walker Basin rd, and Caliente Bodfish rd., all highly rated for motorcycles. During this 4 to 5 hour ride we will grab lunch and then return to Kernville. A group of members have rented an Air B&B in Kernville and will be hosting dinner on Saturday night. All are welcome to come and relax and hang out.
Day 3: We will depart Kernville for home. At this writing several routes are effected by wild fires so we will select the best and safest route home as the ride approaches.
If you are considering this ride, do make your reservations early as the Kernville Fall Festival is the same weekend and hotels may fill up. Hope you can make it for this 5 star ride!
