Upcoming events (4+)
See all- Introduction to Zen Meditation451 Division Ave S, Grand Rapids, MI
I will be giving an introduction to the Zen practice of Shikantaza. This is a traditional style of meditation that is practiced sitting up with the eyes open. It is geared toward prioritizing our awareness over our thought patterns. We will meditate until 6:50pm and then will break to begin studying Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind by Shunryu Suzuki Roshi. Copies of the book are provided and it is not necessary that you read anything before attending. My teacher studied under the Tibetan teacher Trungpa Rinpoche for 15 years before meeting his Zen Master Kobun Chino Roshi. I look forward to practicing with you all soon! Don't let the number of people signed up scare you off. Most of our members don't sign up but we regularly have 12-15 participants.
Please use the rear entrance. There is free parking off Logan St behind the building.
Socks are required in the meditation hall.
All events are offered freely but your donations allow us to rent space and provide supplies.
