We strongly recommend that you access our website at www.indyhike.org before reading further. Besides a comprehensive history, photos and other pertinent information about the Indianapolis Hiking Club (IHC), our website contains a complete listing of all our scheduled hikes, over 2000 annually, just a few of which are listed on Meetup. Meetup users are likely to be deceived into believing that only the organizer and maybe a few other Meetup members are the only ones who will show up for a hike. So not wanting to be alone or hiking with a few other people they are reluctant to participate. This couldn't be further from the truth. IHC members (over 500 strong) usually do not sign up for a hike on this Meetup site, in fact most do not even belong to Meetup. Typically, quite a few (10 or more, depending on the hike) IHC members will show up for a hike. Otherwise the hike would not be on our hike schedule. IHC members usually go out of their way to welcome Meetup guests. So you will not be alone.

Our club, which on January 23, 2025 celebrated our 68th anniversary, has more than 570 active members in central Indiana and schedules more than 2,000 hikes every year (about six hikes a day) in the Indianapolis area and surrounding counties, only a portion of which are listed on Meetup. We also schedule social events, including a summer picnic, General Assembly and Winter Banquet. About six times a year our club also sponsors multi-day hiking trips to Indiana state parks, national parks, other states and international locations. Join us on any hike or away trip as a guest. Everyone 18 years or older is welcome as are children and grandchildren as long as an adult is willing to take responsibility for them. You do not have to be invited to join us as a guest and there is no fee. Simply show up for any hike at least 10 minutes before the scheduled start time. It is a club tradition to start the hike "on-time", but please no pets unless the hike is designated as a "pet hike". We hope to see you soon.
Joining Meetup is not the same as being a member of the Indianapolis Hiking Club. We have only two requirements to join our club; you must be 18 years old and have hiked with us on two occasions as a guest, and attending any of our hikes whether though Meetup or not, counts as being a guest. That's it. There is no one time membership fee, just annual dues which are very modest; $25 for an individual and $40 for a family. After you become a member your hiking mileage with the club will be tracked and you will be eligible to attend events like the Winter Banquet only available to members. Prior to joining you are welcome to hike as a guest as often as you wish – again no fee.
