What we’re about
*This group will later use discord to regionally seperate into areas and interests for sharing and learning, as well as social events general and craft related. I have just created this group, so beyond that I hope you will help me shape a collective, something I cannot begin alone.*
We talk about tradecraft and rarely do we think about the implication of the word trade: it is an exchange, and in what is left broad and varied. I suggest a trade collective because there is a trade that all craft benefits from: an exchange of skills and knowledge. Maybe you’re a structural engineer and you would like to better understand chemistry, or a woodworker or welder who wants to learn the other so they can combine. Or, a new woodworker who wants to learn and refine your hobby into carpentry or learn about milling raw lumber. Maybe your hobby or profession has changed from one to the other and you want to find a common group of likeminded friends, or learn your budding skills-or teach those who come after you. We all have much to offer, but so much more to gain from this simple trade I propose:
“You teach me, I teach you.”
From this idea comes the concept of the Makerspace Collective.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a chemist, an engineer, a welder, a mechanic, a carpenter, or doing something in 3D printing or sculpting-our hobbies and professions are, in essence, specialized and general trades that shape our world, and within us is the spark of making and creating, whether with your hands, with tools, with your creativity or with science. Woodworkers, machinists, welders, 3D printers, structure engineers, chemists, sculptors, circuit lab junkies, you name it. If you have a hobby or a makerspace of your own, join up! Specializations will be subdivided into their own sections with a collective general one for social events, future workshops or programs, you name it. If you are a maker, come find other makers for peers and like minds, as well as mentorship and collaboration. Craftsmanship takes a wide variety of skills and people, and if building and making or inventing is what you like to do, this is a space to find friends and develop connections. Collaboration creates the most amazing things, and having common ground in cool hobbies forms deep connections. If you like to make, join my makerspace and let’s build a community with like minds and an amazing variety of talents and interests!
When you join, please write an intro, full blown story or small blurb-that is your choice. If you could, give a little background on anything about you you would like to share, and what you do that you consider making or tradecraft or whatever you call those interests. Be as detailed or short as you’d like, and include something you’d like to learn more about-maybe to augment your work and do more, maybe just because you’re interested, these choices are yours.
Welcome!
