What we’re about
Hello and Welcome Back to the Northern Virginia Theater Group! I was the Organizer of the Northern Virginia Theater Group and the Active Alexandria Singles Group from 2009 - 2017. I am looking forward to returning to musical theater and hope you will join me. Our events will include live local events at my favorites theaters, including: Signature Theater, The Little Theater of Alexandria, Arena Stage, and more! I am also looking forward to going back to the Birchmere and checking out the local theaters here in Prince William County.
Most of the events I host will include a brunch, lunch or dinner before the show and will be posted separately as those events will often require reservations. [Remember to keep those RSVPs up-to-date!] As always, the meals before the shows are open to all, not just those attending the event. I will keep these events to 6 or 8 so I encourage you to come join us and get to know us in a small group setting.
As many of you are aware, being a Meetup Organizer requires payments of fees to Meetup and after some consideration I have decided against charging an annual fee. Instead, all I ask is a small donation of $1.00 per event (more is always welcome!) to help defray the cost of running the group. Please don't let this deter you from attending an event as it is NOT mandatory.
I look forward to meeting you all and getting back to the theater.
NOTE:
I am always looking for folks to help plan and host events. Email me with your suggestions and I can make you the host.
Hosting events is easy; no full time commitments needed. Just send me an email and as a host you can create the listing, manage attendees, etc.
Hope you all have a wonderful summer and I will see you soon!
Sue

### The Hunchback of Notre Dame
#### Music by Alan Menken, Lyrics by Stephen Schwartz,Book by Peter Parnell
Based on the Victor Hugo novel and songs from the Disney animated feature, The Hunchback of Notre Dame showcases the film’s Academy Award-nominated score, as well as new songs by Menken and Schwartz. Peter Parnell’s new book embraces story theatre and features verbatim passages from Hugo’s gothic novel.
The musical begins as the bells of Notre Dame sound through the famed cathedral in fifteenth-century Paris. Quasimodo, the deformed bell-ringer who longs to be "Out There," observes all of Paris reveling in the Feast of Fools. Held captive by his devious caretaker, the archdeacon Dom Claude Frollo, he escapes for the day and joins the boisterous crowd, only to be treated cruelly by all but the beautiful Romani woman, Esmeralda. Quasimodo isn’t the only one captivated by her free spirit, though – the handsome Captain Phoebus and Frollo are equally enthralled. As the three vie for her attention, Frollo embarks on a mission to destroy the Roma – and it’s up to Quasimodo to save them all.
A sweeping score and powerful story make The Hunchback of Notre Dame an instant classic. Audiences will be swept away by the magic of this truly unforgettable musical.
