Hey everyone! Let's do something a little different this week. Providence hosted a major comedy festival last weekend, but there wasn't much in terms of cheaper events we could enjoy as a group. We figured we could celebrate in spirit, and a week late, by enjoying a performance by the Providence Improv Guild.
TLDR Notes: There are two shows on 4/5/25 at the same location. Please make sure to purchase tickets ($10) to the 9:30pm showing. Link to their website at bottom of description. Their performance space is limited, so it's highly recommended to buy in advance. Tickets at the door may be unavailable or limited. Standing room tickets are at the discretion of Prov Improv Guild. If you'd rather sit out the show (roughly one hour). We will go to another bar after if want to wait or meet us after.
Providence Improv Guild, known affectionately as PIG, is easily one of the best improv groups in the state. They offer classes and workshops for those brave enough to stand on stage and try to be funny on demand. The thought of which is absolutely terrifying, and I will happily enjoy the show from my seat. Anyway lol They also offer regular shows on the weekend which is always a fun little way to mix things up. Plus tickets are only $10!
There are two shows on 4/5/25, so please make sure to buy tickets to the 9:30pm showing. When you click the Saturday show date, there should be a time dropdown menu you'll need to change since it defaults to 7:30pm. Space is limited, so there's somewhat of a chance they sell out since we'll be throwing them a little more business than usual. We recommend you buy tickets in advance to be safe. In the past they have squeezed more people in with standing room space, but that's at PIG's discretion we cannot guarentee they are still doing this. The show is typically a little over an hour incase anyone would rather just chill with a drink downstairs and regroup with us after. Link to their website to purchase tickets is below.
Since it's improv, by definition, you never really know what you're going to get. You may bust a rib laughing or watch a trainwreck, so either way it will be interesting. However, each of our past experiences at PIG have been great, so it should be a good show! PIG usually invites another troup as guest performers to warm up the audience. Then their own team, which may include recent graduates of their program, will take the stage as the headliners. They will often take suggestions from the crowd, but you won't be put on the spot.
Since we just went to Trinity last week, let's head to Muldowney's Pub to start the night. It may actually be our first time checking this place out as a meetup. Muldowney's is a dive bar lover's dive bar. It's a no frills, vaguely Irish themed, spot that serves up some of the cheapest drinks in the city. They have a full bar to make any staple cocktails, but this isn't the spot to try an order a negroni. It used to be the pregame spot for some of the hosts back in their wayward youth days lol
AS220 also has a bar next door, so we may also pop in there before or after the show depending on how busy Muldowney's may be and if the group likes the vibe.
After the show we'll still have much of the night ahead of us, and there's plenty of spots just a short walk away.
Please reach out to the hosts if you have any questions or leave a comment. Hope to see you all there!
