What we’re about

This is a group for black and people of colour only to come together in the practice of secular mindfulness so that the voices and wisdom of people of colour can be centred, heard and shared.

Our focus will be to galvanise the voices of UK black and brown People of Colour who either practice, teach or research secular mindfulness in order to facilitate opportunities for mindfulness practice, discussion, teaching, and research to be conducted into how mindfulness benefits the black and people of colour community specifically in the UK.

By ensuring these sessions are reserved for Black and People of Colour only, The Urban Mindfulness Foundation aim to create a safe space where the UK BPOC Mindfulness community can come together to have open, honest and frank conversations about mindfulness in its current form alongside the new social mindfulness programme we have designed to dismantle racism and social inequality.

As part of this group, we will also engage in educational racial emancipation and healing work grounded in mindfulness training and practice.

We will explore how we address racial injustices in a non adversarial way by provide an opportunity for people of colour to practice a social form of mindfulness and then if desired develop into teachers able to deliver mindfulness in a way that is inclusive and nourishing to the UK Black experience.

The sessions are a mixture of guided meditation, discussions, reflections, contemplation and group exercises that stimulate debate, understanding and skilful means imbued in wisdom and compassionate action. As such, some experience with mindfulness meditation is recommended (but not essential)

If you are a black or brown person of colour teaching or learning to teach mindfulness in the UK, or would like to learn how to teach mindfulness sensitive to identity based harm including race, please join us.

We are not a black Buddhist or religious group, but we do acknowledge teaching from various traditions. We come together as a secular group of black and brown people focused on developing skills outside of any religious framework or system in the interest of teaching ourselves, each other and wider society a new form of social mindfulness grounded in biopsychosocial learning.

To make these sessions as accessible as possible there is a small suggested donation fee of £3. You can either book your event via Meet up using PayPal or if this is not affordable, please visit our website www.urbanmindfulnessfoundation.co.uk to book you ticket  and donate anything from £1 per session.
