The Network and Information Security directive (NIS2) demands that we maintain the highest compliance standards at Enexis. We are the first line of defence to protect the critical Dutch energy infrastructure. In this second meetup of the “Secure without Excuse” series, we’ll share our approach to meeting these high standards while fostering and focusing on an excellent Mendix Developer Experience at Enexis.
At Enexis, we’re navigating the energy transition—an enormous challenge that no one can solve alone. Innovation isn’t optional; it’s essential. Our way forward lies in the unknown, where speed, agility, and quality must come together without compromising on security. That’s why we embrace the mindset of being Secure without Excuse in everything we build.
Delivering energy isn’t just our job—it’s what keeps hospitals running, homes heated, and communities powered. With a Mendix landscape of over 120 applications, 360 environments, and 60+ developers, we carry a responsibility that goes far beyond IT. So how do we move fast while staying secure and compliant with NIS2?
In this session, we’ll dive into what NIS2 really means for Enexis—beyond compliance, and into practical application. We’ll show how our NIS2 policy translates directly into actionable, technical implementations that work at scale.
You’ll learn how we:
- We implement and handle NIS2 at Enexis.
- Built a custom solution to manage and secure access to Mendix code.
- Standardized and simplified data retention across all our Mendix applications.
- Gained control over local accounts like service accounts to reduce risk and improve oversight.
And… we’ve got a small surprise planned for the community. Let’s just say: you’ll leave with more than just inspiration.
We want to learn from you, too. We’re eager to exchange ideas and hear how others are approaching vulnerability management in their own complex landscapes.
This session is for anyone passionate about balancing speed and security in software development—especially in large-scale, mission-critical environments like ours.

His mission: to abstract away complexity so that developers can focus on delivering value—faster, safer, and with confidence.
