We are a group of black women who love to read, want to read more, and meet like-minded women. We are here to inspire women to read, share literature, fellowship, and encourage others in the joy of reading. Currently, we are meeting virtual until it is safe and when the world opens up we will meet both in-person and online. We are an eclectic group of women and so are our reading selections. Mocha Girls, please read:
We are going to have a "one-day donation drive" by all Mocha Girls Read chapters. The goal is to raise money to keep the Mocha Girls Read book club free for all members. Our goal this year is $5,000.00! Ever since COVID hit us, we have increased in members and overall cost.

Donations of any amount are accepted.

This year, we will be giving a prize to the highest single donor. So make sure to add your name in the note section.

All $$ goes straight to the Mocha Girls Read account to cover the cost for our Meetup page, our website, and our growing admin expenses.

Here is the list of yearly MGR expenses.

• $25.00 (a month) for website security for mochagirlsread.com because the site was hacked twice, and I didn't want it to happen again. =$300.00 a year
• $23.88 (a year) for the website back up
• About $25.00 (a month) in shipping cost of some of the giveaway gifts and books to winners =$300.00
• IT tech = $3,000.00 a year (I need help with the website sometimes)
• Preview Subscription for the IG account = $149.99 (a year)
• Book Brush to make the beautiful images of our books each month = $89.00 (a year)
• IFTTT to post items from one social media account to another $24.00 (a year)
• Mailchimp for our monthly newsletters and emails = $1080.00 (a year)
• Starry for the internet = $600 (a year)
• Zoom for each chapters account = $1,256.56 (a year)
• Legal Zoom to keep our 5013c status on good standing with taxes= $152.00 (a year)
• Mail.com for email transfer fee = $96.00 (a year)

As many of you may know, we are now a 5013(c) status. So your donation is 100% tax-deductible.

Donations can be made all year long. This is just our big push to pay the upcoming bills.

Dewey’s 24-Hour Read-A-Thon (https://linktr.ee/deweyreadathon) is back!! I love doing this event because I get through a book or two in one day.

On April 26th, the Challenge of reading ALL DAY long starts. During the bi-annual read-a-thon, we will read books, post to our blogs, Facebook, The StoryGraph, or Goodreads about our reading, and check in here. We will also participate in mini-challenges throughout the day to win prizes. (I love that part!) This event happens twice a year, in April and October. It was created by a book lover named Dewey. The first one was held in October 2007. Dewey died in late 2008. The read-a-thon was renamed to honor its founder in 2009.

On April 26th the Dewey’s 24 Hour Read-A-Thon (https://linktr.ee/deweyreadathon) will start at:

5 am in California.

7 am in Minnapolis.

8 am in New York.
