Who we are
We’re a group of women in Northern Virginia who enjoy different geekdoms, nerdoms, and fandoms. We hope to foster a sense of community and fun in our often-transient and formal neighborhood, have some adventures, and do some good along the way. Come unleash your inner nerd with us!
What we do
We have regular events, like craft nights, pub trivia, game nights, and an “un-book club,” and special events, such as conventions, movie nights, and other group outings. Bring yourself and your suggestions for more nerdy events! We've also struck up an awesome bond with the folks over at Alexandria Dungeons & Dragons Meetup if you're a new or experienced D&D player looking for a new group to play with.
A few more things you should know about Nerdy Ladies of NOVA
•We welcome all fandoms, and just general nerdiness! This is a judgment-free zone, and we love to learn from each other.
• This group is only for women. Discrimination based on age, race, socio-economic status, sex assigned at birth, sexual preference, or political preference will not be tolerated.
• Please be sure to subscribe to emails from this group! That's how you'll learn about cool things like our D&D partnership, and also how we'll communicate event details if things change. If you're on Gmail, these emails may go to your "Social" folder.
• We ask our members to contribute annual dues in the amount of $5/year. Membership dues help the Nerdy Ladies pay for our Meetup subscription fee (totaling $197.88/year) and allow us to host certain events where we need to pay for rental fees, materials, snacks, giveaways, etc. During the pandemic, they have also helped pay for our Zoom membership to keep our virtual programming running. There is a 60-day trial period for new members, so you can try some events and decide if the group is for you before you commit (we hope you'll join us)! Dues can be paid through the Meetup site or through Zelle (nerdyladiesofnova@gmail.com; just make sure you add a message with your name and specify that the money is for dues). The COVID stuff: The Nerdy Ladies of NOVA is hosting a mix of in-person and virtual events for the foreseeable future. So we hope that you can find something fun to do whatever your comfort level may be! FOR IN-PERSON EVENTS, WE ASK THAT YOU ONLY ATTEND IF YOU ARE FULLY VACCINATED & BOOSTED (you have received the full schedule for the vaccine you received and completed the incubation period, including for the booster).
