NE Seacoast Paddlers

Ride the waves and elevate your paddling skills with sea kayak surfing, an exciting and challenging course designed for paddlers ready to take their sea kayaking to the next level. This class introduces the fundamentals of surfing ocean waves in a sea kayak, blending the thrill of surf with the technique of open-water kayaking.

• Participants will learn to:
• Read surf conditions and identify safe launch and landing zones
• Time wave sets and execute controlled surf entries and exits
• Use edging, bracing, and body positioning to maintain control on a wave
• Practice surf zone safety, group awareness, and self- and assisted rescues
• Taught by experienced instructors, this course combines beach-based briefings with in-water coaching. Whether you’re seeking to build confidence in rougher waters or expand your kayaking repertoire, this course offers a dynamic, hands-on experience in the surf zone.

Gear Requirements: Sea kayak with appropriate outfitting for surf (helmets required), PFD, spray skirt, paddle, wetsuit or drysuit.

If conditions do not support surfing, the class will address rock gardening instead.

As a way to give back to the community, we are offering free weekly two-hour sessions where folks can work on any non-rolling activity, such as fine-tuning strokes, rescues, etc.! Please note that all participants must have their own equipment, and assistance is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

• The location will alternate between Lake Attitash, Chebacco Lake, and Hampton Harbor. Please check the post each day of the event.

American Canoe Association Level 3 Coastal Kayak Instructor Certification Workshop (ICW)

Facilitated by Kevin Beckwith (Rock, Paddle, Surf Kayak Coaching) and Todd Wright (Synaptic Sport)

Course Overview:
This Level 3 Coastal Kayak ICW aims to prepare candidates to become certified ACA instructors in coastal kayaking by providing them with comprehensive, practical, and evidence-based skills and knowledge essential to supporting individual learners and learning in the Level 3 course locations and instructional venues. Candidates will have opportunities to refine required and developing technical skills and expand their teaching and instructional skills and knowledge with guidance from a formally trained and credentialed educator/coach developer who values learning as an active process and understands how to differentiate learning. Therefore, candidates will have numerous opportunities during the ICW to bring theory into practice by planning and delivering sessions to meet various learner needs while receiving feedback from peers and facilitators. Most importantly, all candidates will leave with an action plan to guide them on their journey toward assessment.
