Come along to KINGS Restaurant & Entertainment to enjoy the game of backgammon -- whether as a complete beginner or a seasoned tournament competitor!
NEBC currently offers two divisions of tournament play, 'Open' and 'Intermediate.'(See entry fees below.) A good rule of thumb as to whether you are ready for tournament play, is that after you roll the dice you should be able to "see" the various available options without having to count out the numbers by tapping a checker along the board -- we do use game clocks to keep play moving along. You should also understand the basic rules for using the doubling cube.
TOURNAMENT PLAYERS
Registration Deadline: 12:00 Noon sharp!Beginners & Novices are Welcome!
After doors open at 11:30 and before play begins at 12:15, experienced experts will offer free small-group demonstration games for Beginners and Intermediates, who are also welcome to observe tournament play and enjoy informal games anytime throughout the day.Participating in the Intermediate division is $30, while the stronger Open division is $60. Cash prizes are paid out for those who go farthest in the event (85-90% of entry fees are returned in prizes, while the rest goes to the end-of-year playoff prize pool). There is a consolation bracket in both divisions, so everyone is guaranteed at least 2 matches. For more details, visit the NEBC website.
NEBC hopes to generate enough food/drink business that Kings will continue to value our presence, so any business you can contribute in that way would be a big help -- please put any orders you make on our NEBC group tab and pay the tournament director your total (including tax and a generous tip -- we always leave 30%) when you leave.
Bring a board if you have one, but if not, don't worry -- we'll have plenty on hand!
