About the Event:
Calling all Vancouver newcomers! New & Not So New in Vancouver is a free networking event for people that have just arrived in Vancouver or have been in the city for a while and want to meet new people.
We invite 'Team Leaders', who are a great group of well-settled members of the community to come along and share tips, advice and their experience with newcomers to the city.
Making friends, getting jobs and finding accommodation is hard in Vancouver so we run this event on the last Wednesday of every month to give people a place to meet and support one another. We hold a free raffle at every meetup so call down to Donnellan's from 5pm for the chats and great company!
Event Agenda:
5pm-6pm - Open Networking - Meet the hosts and grab your name tag and free raffle ticket at the door when you arrive. Take a seat anywhere with a table number or move around! This is a great time to get a feel for different tables before you choose one for the speed networking portion of the evening! This is also a great time to grab a drink at the bar or order some food before things get started (but you can order anytime throughout the evening).
6pm-7pm - Speed Networking - Take a seat at your chosen table. This will be your table for the hour so it’s best to stay seated for the duration of the speed networking. Our ‘Team Leaders’ will come to you! Feel free to head up to the bar if needed or ask the hosts questions if you have any.
7pm - Raffle & Open Networking - Enjoy our free raffle! Walk around and visit other tables and stick around as long as you like! This is a great time to mingle with people you haven't met yet.
Tips to get the most out of the event:
- If you are coming with a friend or a group, we encourage you to split up for the speed networking portion of the evening if you feel comfortable. This will allow you to connect with more people!
- Sit at a table with a table number. If you don't see a number on your table, team leaders won't stop by for a chat! Please ask the hosts to find you a seat if you can't find one.
- Take a photo of the info sheet. We have a useful information sheet on each table with a list of contacts, how to get set up in Vancouver in one day, fun things to do in the city plus much more! You won't find the sheet anywhere else so definitely take a photo on your phone for future reference.
Rules & Guidelines:
- Please respect the guest list. We wish we could have you all at the event, but as we have a limited number of spaces and limited space at Donnellan's, we ask that you please reserve a spot for the next available event instead. If you can no longer make the event, please update so someone on the wait list can have your spot.
- Please respect others. Please give others the opportunity to speak and be mindful of other's backgrounds, as we have many different nationalities join the event. We want everyone to feel safe and welcomed. If you experience any negativity or have any issues, please inform a Team Leader or a host. We will do our best to resolve any issues you may have. Your safety and well being is our top priority. Please inform us if anyone makes you feel uncomfortable or sends you any unsolicited messages. We do not tolerate this behaviour and will remove anyone breaching these rules.
- You can still join the event even if you are running late. We encourage everyone to arrive from 5pm, but arrive whenever you can, we'll have a seat for you!
- Please bring two forms of ID, even if you don't plan on drinking alcohol, as the event is hosted in a bar. We have a range of drink options, from alcoholic to non-alcoholic, the choice is yours!
- Please ask the hosts or Team Leaders to introduce you to a table if you are feeling nervous. We are here to help you get acquainted, so don't hesitate to ask us for help at any time.
- Stick around after the event! The bar will be open late, so if you're having a good time and want to stay longer, you are more than welcome to do that!
- DM us if you would like to get in touch with any of the leaders. We'll pass your information along to them for you.
