Hi Group,
There are many activities to do at Mammoth Lakes, hiking, scenic gondola to the top of the mountain, via ferrata, mountain biking etc.
This is an OPTIONAL activity while attending the Mammoth Lakes Camping Meetup on Saturday, August 9th.
If you are planning to visit Devils Postpile National Monument and/or hiking in the area, for example hiking to Rainbow Falls (Marta and I will be doing this hike on Saturday), you will need shuttle reservations/ticket on the Reds Meadow shuttle. The shuttle is due to an ongoing road construction project entering the Devil’s Postpile area.

Limited services are available at the Devils Postpile National Monument Ranger Station.
There is no food available in Reds Meadow Valley except at Reds Meadow Resort – Please bring sufficient water and food for your visit.
Temperatures can be hot in the valley: stay hydrated, don’t wait until you are thirsty to drink, wear loose, lightweight, light-colored clothing and a hat, wear sunscreen, and avoid too much sun. Please call 911 if you need assistance.
HIKING: - There are several trails to choose from, but we have elected to hike Rainbow Falls.
Rainbow Falls via Devils Postpile. 4.9 miles (total round trip) .
Stop at shuttle stop 6, and you can walk to view the monument area, then onwards to the trailhead. Hike is considered easy to moderate, with the return portion with an incline and stairs. I’ve heard when returning catch the shuttle at stop 10 for less crowds. Please reference the link below.

As with all hiking, please plan appropriately and know your limits. Have your 10 essentials. At minimum, bring plenty of water, sunscreen, a hat, snacks, mosquito repellant, and good shoes. (maybe a lightweight towel) Most likely Marta and I will bring our snack or lunch to enjoy it at the lower section of the falls.
