What we’re about
Welcome birders! This group is for birders of all levels who want to meet for informal and casual bird walks at various OC birding hotspots. Places we’ll visit include Anaheim Coves, Huntington Library, Carbon Canyon, San Joaquin Marsh, and Newport Back Bay. eBird lists featuring the birds that we were able to identify on our walks will be provided to members who keep eBird lists. Apps that are helpful to new and beginning birders will be shared and demonstrated.
Our Code of Conduct:
OC Easy Bird Walks will strive to make activities safe, accessible, and welcoming to everyone. We welcome birders of all levels and encourage participants to ask questions, learn, and support each other on our quests to learn more about birds, their habitats, and the natural world.
We strive to foster an atmosphere of belonging and to include everyone in our activities. People of any age, sex, physical ability, race, religious belief, socioeconomic background, and those who identify as Indigenous, trans, non-binary, queer, women, disabled, and neurodiverse, are welcome at our events.
We strive to be respectful of one another. This includes being considerate of new birders, refraining from using “birding” language or when using it, explaining its meaning to new and beginning birders, acknowledging an individual’s pronouns, and rejecting any racist, sexist, ableist, classist, homophobic, sizeist or xenophobic behaviors, and refraining from singling out certain members.
Outside of OC Easy Bird Walks events, members will conduct themselves in a respectful way, refraining from contacting other members through Meetup messaging for any purposes such as soliciting dates, networking, etc,
The ABA birding code of ethics should be followed by members at events.
If you have any questions or concerns at one of our events, please know that you can always discuss them with me at events or through Meetup messaging.
Lastly, I encourage members to join the local chapter of the Audubon Society–the Sea and Sage Audubon Society–for opportunities for learning, field trips, and excursions to birding locations around Orange County. Membership starts at $20/year. Sign up here.
