Introducing our Locksport and Physical Security meetup! Locksporting deals with lockpicking and bypassing physical security in general. Whether you're a complete beginner or a seasoned lock enthusiast, this is the perfect place for you to learn, practice, and discuss the fascinating world of locks and physical security.
It will be held every 4th Tuesday as part of our regular IT Night. As such we’ll touch on the important relationship between physical and cybersecurity, with discussions on how both fields intersect in professional environments.
This event will be run by a security researcher who is also a professional locksmith with industrial, commercial, and residential expertise.
What You’ll Learn:
In this hands-on collaboration, we'll be covering the following key topics:
· Introduction to Locksport: The art of lock picking as a hobby. We’ll teach you the basics of lock picking, from identifying different types of locks to understanding how to manipulate pins.
· Tools of the Trade: A look at the essential tools used in locksport and how to properly use them.
· Security Fundamentals: Understanding how physical security works and the techniques used to secure doors, safes, cabinets, and more.
· Advanced Techniques: For those with some experience, we’ll also cover advanced techniques like bypassing, key impressioning, and working with high-security locks.
· Electronic Locks & Access Control Systems: A deep dive into modern electronic locks, including RFID, smart locks, and biometric systems. We'll also explore their vulnerabilities and potential exploits.
· Circuit Boards & Components: Examine the components that make up modern locks, and discuss possible security vulnerabilities at both the hardware and software levels.
