What we’re about
Think of our club like a book club....but with movies!
Vote for the movie you want to see, then join us after watching the movie on your own time. We discuss a variety of movies that span genres, decades, styles and national cinemas.
Most of our selections are streaming on Max, Netflix, Criterion Channel, Prime, Hulu, Paramount+ and other popular streaming platforms, but don't forget to consult with your local library.
We usually meet weekly on Saturday mornings at 11am EST along with biweekly meetings on Tuesday nights at 7:30pm EST.

- Sister Act (1992) Film DiscussionLink visible for attendees
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:
NOTE: R.I.P. Maggie Smith, one of the the most beloved and acclaimed actresses of the 20th and 21st centuries. She had an impressive career in theater, film and television and remains one of the few multi-time Oscar-winning performers (she won lead actress for The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (1969) and supporting actress for California Suite). Let's celebrate this late legend's legacy by discussing one of her most popular film: the early 1990s comedy Sister Act!Join us at our next meeting where we will discuss Emile Ardolino's musical comedy Sister Act (1992) starring Whoopi Goldberg, Maggie Smith, Kathy Najimy and Harvey Keitel. - La Piscine (The Swimming Pool) (1969) Film DiscussionLink visible for attendees
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:
NOTE: R.I.P. Alain Delon, one of the most famous international film stars of the 20th century. For those unfamiliar, Delon was a French actor who became a massive presence in European cinema from the 1960s to 1980s. In terms of international stardom, he was on par with the likes of Sophia Loren, Marcello Mastroianni and Brigitte Bardot. He became a bankable star who worked with some of the era's most notable directors. His good looks and "cool" demeanor/style made him a cultural icon. Even if you haven't seen any of his movies, you probably have seen his face somewhere. He's that iconic. He was awarded the honorary Honorary Palme d'Or at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival. We are going to celebrate the late great French actor by discussing one of his most popular movies: La Piscine (The Swimming Pool), an erotic thriller that starred his then-wife Romy Schneider [a big star in her own right]. I have not seen this movie but I've heard nothing but good things about it.
Join us at our next meeting where we will discuss Jacques Deray's psychological thriller film La Piscine (The Swimming Pool) (1969) starring Alain Delon, Romy Schneider, Maurice Ronet and Jane Birkin. The film is streaming on Max and Criterion Channel but it is available as a rental on most streaming services starting at $3.99.

- Time Bandits (1981) Film DiscussionLink visible for attendees
NOTE: To the best of my knowledge, we have (somehow) never discussed a Terry Gilliam film. Time Bandits is a beloved cult classic and one that I have (somehow) never seen. There's so many famous faces in this one and this should provoke a great discussion. This could also serve as a tribute to the late great Shelley Duvall. And there is also a recent AppleTV+ show based on the film that just came out, so this is timely! Thank you Tim for the recommendation!
Join us at our next meeting where we will discuss Terry Gilliam's historical comedyTime Bandits (1981) starring David Rappaport, John Cleese, Sean Connery, Shelley Duvall, Katherine Helmond and Ian Holm. The film is streaming on Max and Criterion Channel but it is also available as a rental on most streaming services starting at $3.99.
