See all- Mt. Pisgah EXPLORATORY hike Approx. 12- 14 miles..410 Center Ave, Jim Thorpe, PA
**Moderate to advance hikers only due to mileage, elevation, pace and conditions during hike**
The hike starts with a very STEEP climb up the Pisgah plane where the old coal carts would come down the mountain. Although only roughly 600 feet up, the hill seems to go on forever. It is no joke! Your reward is two scenic views at the top.
The hike will be exploratory in nature as we will explore trails and hills that we did not do last time here. Hiker "exploratory" can mean many things, so be ok with the unexpected. Safety will always be considered though.
Total mileage will be around 12-14 with about 2,500 feet of elevation and steady pace. Short stops at scenic areas. We will also take a lunch break of about 15 minutes.
Some amazing historical information can be found here:Carbon County
There are plenty of other cool sites to see up on the mountain. And a special little spot where we will stop to eat our snacks/lunch.This will be a rather long day, so plan accordingly. End time is best estimate.
Gear/food: dress in warm layers, proper footwear, food and water. Wear bright colors - bright orange preferred as we will be on state game lands
and there could be hunting nearby.Weather: will reschedule if weather is not favorable, but plan to hike even if snow on ground. Microspikes will be required if that is the case.
Parking: use 410 Center Ave in Jim Thorpe for GPS. This is address for Jr. High School. There is street parking along Center in front of school, on Pine which is side of school and on North Ave behind the school. We will meet at the corner of Pine and North Ave.
Guests: no guests. All must be members of Outdoor Adventure Friends for communication purposes. Meetup is free..
Please note: I cannot respond to calls, texts, emails, messages on meetup, or comments on the event page once we start hiking. Please plan accordingly.
