What we’re about
Welcome to Outdoor Adventure Friends! We are a welcoming group comprised of former strangers, now friends, with diverse backgrounds. Our bond is a common sense of adventure and desire to share experiences with others. Activities include hiking, kayaking, biking, camping and some other social events/trips. The majority of our events span across the Phila., Lehigh, Pocono, Reading, New Jersey and Hudson Valley areas. We are an all year round active group with multiple events weekly and a variety of leaders, each bringing a unique style. Group is open to all that are 21 and over and have a basic fitness and like to exercise in the outdoors.

DESCRIPTION:
Are you intrigued at the idea of getting to the most remote part of Carbon County, knowing there might be moments where we're not lost but not entirely certain what comes next? If so, this hike could be for you.
Penn Haven Junction is considered the most remote part of Carbon County and there are no simple trails to get there. We will start on the fairly flat and established Broad Mt Loop Trail and then diverge down to the D&L trail, up and down a few ravines, and see some cool views. I haven’t hiked most of this, so pack some patience as my route has lots of turns and some crisscrossing of trails. We may hike fast in the wrong direction and need to make a short detour at some point
If you have not hiked with me before, please note that this is NOT a beginner hike. If you cannot keep up in the first 2 miles, I will ask you to head back. If you have questions, please contact me. This area is too far from easy exit points to have the group get spread out. Expect brief stops at a few scenic spots and we will take a 5-minute snack break at some point.
We will leave on time.
What we will all need to bring:
1. Great attitude
2. Desire and ability to hike quickly on uneven terrain
3. Proper footwear- hiking boots or trail runners
4. Appropriate clothing for conditions: layers, wind and rain protection based upon forecast.
5. Water or other source of hydration/electrolytes; food/snacks
6. Hiking poles and backpacks as needed.
7. Sunscreen, bug spray and bear spray as desired
WEATHER: Heavy rain or storms will cancel and reschedule. Anything is fair game.
PARKING AND MEETING LOCATION:
We will meet at the Broad Mountain Loop Parking area on the east side of Hudson Dr/Rt 93 https://maps.app.goo.gl/Vg7gNpuQeWpKqXTXA

This event is cross posted with our friends at BUCKS AND HUNTERDON BIKING AND HIKING GROUP. Bike ride 20 miles on the SRT - 12-15 mph pace with Classic Sci-Fi Movie Stop., Sat, Jul 12, 2025, 10:00 AM | Meetup
Please only sign up with one group. From Valley Forge, we'll head west towards Phoenixville, and take a short break at our turn around point at the Upper Schuylkill Valley Park which has a small zoo with Wolf and Bobcats among other animals. On the way back we'll pass through downtown Phoenixville making a quick stop at the Colonial Theatre where scenes from the 1958 Sci-Fi Movie 'The Blob' were filmed. We'll stop at Root Down Biergarten for a beer and/or lunch, then return to the Parking Lot.
I plan to average 12-15 mph and we will pause to wait for everyone to catch up so we stay together.
This is a trail ride. A hybrid, gravel or mountain bike is recommended. The River trail varies between a paved surface and a pretty smooth mix of packed down pea to walnut size gravel with several dirt sections. There are a few spots that can be slightly muddy after a rain.
There are rest rooms at the start/end point and several locations along our route.
Helmets are required on my rides. Anyone without a helmet will be removed from the ride. This is non-negotiable.
Please have a spare tube and a flat repair kit for your size tire. Bring water, snack, electrolyte as you see fit.
We’ll have lunch at the Root Down Biergarten for those who would like to join us. Food & Drinks are very good & reasonably priced.
By signing up for this event you acknowledge you are responsible for your own safety.
