What we’re about
Read. Connect. Discover. Explore.
I'm interested in starting a women's book club for those who love to read and discuss books but would also like something a little more active than just a monthly meeting and themed snacks. I would like to choose books that could be a springboard to explore locally, regionally and perhaps beyond.
Some possible ideas:
Beach Reads
- choose a great beach read, discuss and share our finds over the summer. I suppose summer will get here eventually:)
- visit lesser known beaches in the area
- visit beach towns such as Cape Charles for beach/vineyard tour, etc.
- beach picnic/walks
- pop up brunch and by the pool reading
- end of summer beach rental for a reader's retreat
French Theme
(I've enjoyed The Paris Wife, The Secret Life of Sunflowers, The Paris Apartment, Five Quarters of the Orange, The Room on Rue Amelie, and several others)
- Yorktown sister cities farmer's market (amazing French pastries!)
- seek out French bakeries and creperies for meetings
- find a great French bistro restaurant
- arrange for a group French cooking class
- plan a French wine tasting
- visit a Lavender farm or flower farm
- French bateau boat tour on the James
- listen to a French jazz singer at a vineyard
- visit museums to view French art/picnic
- for the adventurous, a trip to Quebec City
Outdoor/Nature Theme:
- explore area parks and trails
- botanical gardens
Let me know if you are interested. If so, based on the level of interest, I can post meetings and activities.
