Talk info:
Is there an optimal way to lead and deliver our goals?
It’s easy to believe that there is.
Models for leadership and delivery are advertised as the route to success. Consultants convince others to adopt their favoured frameworks, and leaders advocate universal ways of working to every corner of their global organisations.
Reality, however, is not so simple.
Frameworks suitable and beneficial in one team can harm others, and far less discussed, many popular ideas have little or no actual proof in the first place. Consequently, our results often end up some distance away from our original targets and the spotlight inevitably turns on us.
In this talk, based on his upcoming book: Leaders, Believers and Expert Deceivers, Stephen will argue that there can never be an optimal model for leadership or delivery, and no framework or structure can guarantee results. We need a different perspective, and that begins with a deliberate step away from one-size-fits-all models.
About Stephen:
Stephen is an accomplished and award-winning IT leader with over twenty years of experience in complex, uncertain and high-scale technical organisations. During that time, he has led customer, infrastructure, product and software functions in rapid-growth and highly regulated environments.
Today, Stephen provides consultancy and support to C-suite and other senior leaders in companies ranging from start-ups through to established global organisations in the science, technology, education and mathematics (STEM) space. He provides expertise in sense-making, context-driven leadership, complexity, agility and organisational transformation. He is well respected by his clients and speaking audiences for his insightful observations and rich combination of theory and real-world experience.
Peer-to-peer coaching time:
Following a member suggestion, we’re delighted to include some peer coaching time at this event. After the main talk, we will invite attendees to form small groups to support one another with a current challenge or situation they face. There’s nothing for you to prepare, and any sharing is both voluntary and under Vegas rules! Full instructions will be provided at the event.
This event is organised by Humand Talent and supported by the Business and IP Centre Oxfordshire.
