Clear skies are predicted for Wednesday, so let's get together and shoot the sunset, with a silhouette challenge! The announcement photo is a cropped shot taken at 70 mm, a longer lens or zoom will be much more fun for this. I plan to bring my 200-500, as well as the 24-70.

Sunset is at 5:05, and we will meet at 4:30 to scout the area for other shots then get set up for the sunset.

Important: The map for the meeting point is not where we will meet!!! We will meet in a residential area in Carlsbad, and I will message everyone on the 'go' list with the exact address.

Bring a tripod and remote shutter release if you have one.

Let's go to San Diego Zoo Safari Park on Thursday Jan 16 2025. The Park is open and you do not need reservations but you need season pass or tickets. Parking $20 extra/car for non-members.

We will meet in front of the main gate around 8:30-45 AM. We will enter the Safari Park when it opens at 9:00 AM sharp! We will do the group photo inside. Plan on walking 3 to 5 miles until about noon. Of course you can stay longer if you like.

What to Bring:

Walking shoes, sunscreen, hat and water are all advised. Bring your medium to long lenses. Monopods can be helpful, but tripods are not recommended.

The route will be as follows: We will go to the Australian walkabout, then buzzards, eagle and on to the tiger trail. From there after shooting the tigers onto Nairobi Village to Enchanted Lagoon, Rainforest Aviary and then to elevators to Lion Camp. After seeing Bo and /or the females on to the African Loop past Cheetahs and birds in the large pond and back to elevators, Gorilla Trail to the bird aviary near the Exit.

We are flexible on what we shoot and can veer off to focus on what is happening that day. I kind of lead by committee.

The Pacific Photographic Society has adopted Windansea beach, part of I Love a Clean San Diego's new program. There will be additional opportunities in the future for other clean ups of Windansea. This is an ongoing project to keep Windansea clean. As a side benefit, events will be scheduled that will provide photo ops, early morning and later in the day. Windansea can hold its own against any beach on the Cal coast (IMHO) and it has a rich history of surfing going back to the 1960's. Thank you for your participation. Bring camera for sunset.
You must sign a volunteer liability waiver. Please dress in layers and closed toe shoes. Please bring a bucket or bag to hold trash and gloves to protect your hands from sharp objects. Bring hat and sunscreen, H2O/snack.
