What we’re about
All our day walks should be easily accessible for Manchester, Sheffield, East Midlands, West Midlands, West Yorkshire and many with good rail links even from London and the South.
Browse our Meetup site and you'll find lots of cracking walks and one or two bike rides as well.
We also have a big schedule of low cost weekends away throughout the year summarised at the link below.
https://www.peakmeetupgroup.com/weekends
We're a group for all ages and stages and I guarantee you'll be made very welcome at any of our events.
If unsure about anything please ask.
Although everyone can join our group without charge, we are a a subscription based group which means that rather than make a charge for individual walks or require members to join the Ramblers Association to take part as some walking groups do, we levy a recurring Annual Membership charge of £10 or offer Life Membership for a one off payment of £35 but we allow your very first THREE MONTHS ABSOLUTELY FREE after which you need to make a decision about your continuing membership of the group. (Free period does not apply to re-joining members)
Full details are at:- https://www.peakmeetupgroup.com/membership
Most of our active members have at some point taken out Life Membership of the group but once achieved requires no further membership payments throughout the life of their membership.
We understand that new members may be little uncomfortable at parting with payments no matter how small without knowledge and experience of our lovely group so also give THREE MONTHS UNCONDITIONAL MONEY BACK GUARANTEE from the date of payment on any subscription payments you make.
The kitty we generate through membership payments enables us to offer a massive program of budget weekends away and to pay our Meetup Fees, Liability Insurance and other expenses. All our activities are entirely NOT FOR PROFIT and none of our organisers or walk leaders draws any income whatsoever. Any income surplus is ploughed back into creating new events.
Please note that we do consider it essential for our group where members do meet each other 'live' that new members should use a sensible screen name that they expect to be addressed by and that they are prepared to upload/show a recognisable profile picture of themselves on our Meetup site.

Upcoming events (4+)
See all- Wednesday Bike Ride from Carsington WaterCarsington Water Visitor Centre, Ashbourne
As some of us are heading off shortly to do the Cumbria Coast to Coast Bike Ride I thought we should get a bit of practice in.
There is a bike hire centre at Carsington Water if you need this.
Our ride can be taken in stages so minimum of about 25 miles and maximum of about 40 miles which is typically what we shall be doing on the Coast to Coast. This includes going around most of the reservoir and then onto Tissington and High Peak Trails before return to the start at the Carsington Water Visitor Centre.
Any bike will do including e-bikes but terrain includes gravel tracks as well as tarmac. Large sections are flat but there are some inclines as well!
Helmets are required on all group bike rides.
Places are still available for our Coast to Coast trip.

It would not be possible to provide the range of events we do or to cover the cost of insurance and now increasing Meetup fees if we were not a subscription based group which means paying an annual subscription of £10pa or a Life Membership subscription in which case further payments are not necessary.
If attending our weekends away as an unpaid or lapsed subscriber or as a non member guest you are required to pay an additional £10 when balances become due. This applies to all events starting on or after 1st January 2025

- Yorkshire Walking and Social Summer Break PLUS Y3P and Y3P ExtremeYHA Ingleton, Ingleton£114.00
TWO FEMALE AND FOUR MALE PLACES LEFT ONLY
DON'T MISS OUT
What about a combination weekend at a GREAT location with all the accommodation and food included, a great SOCIAL atmosphere with a CHOICE of walks every day and on the Saturday as well as a normal circular walk option, the opportunity to instead do either the renowned YORKSHIRE THREE PEAKS CHALLENGE or our very own THREE PEAKS CHALLENGE EXTREME the latter straight from and to our accommodation venue.
Ingleton is a gem at the heart of the Yorkshire Dales and YHA Ingleton a great base to explore all of this wonderful area. It is close to the famed Yorkshire Three Peaks of Pen y ghent, Ingleborough and Whernside which are well worth exploring individually or as part of the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge which can just as easily be tackled from here as well as the more usual starting point of Horton in Ribblesdale. But there is so much else to do in this area we will be spoiled for choice.
We believe some will want to do our NEW Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge Walk from Ingleton which is a cool 29.4 miles . There are some already signed up for this which is great but we have also now had requests from some who want to do the Classic (shorter) Y3P Challenge from Horton in Ribblesdale on this particular weekend so have added too. Everyone will be sharing the same venue and there will be more moderate guided walks on each of the three days available.
All the catering and accommodation arrangements work the same for everyone regardless of your Saturday activity choice and walks on Friday and Sunday are open to all.
There is even a wonderful Lido swimming pool adjacent to the hostel for a well deserved swim after a hard day on the hill.
Friday arrival at our accommodation is from anytime after 6pm but we will lay on a bonus walk for those who can arrive in the area for likely 10:45am to ensure we make the best of the day.
We shall be rustling up a delicious hot meal for Friday night with vegetarian option so no need to eat on the way and although we'll serve up about 8pm, there'll be plenty kept for those arriving a little later.
Help yourself breakfasts and lunch packups are provided as is hot food Friday and Saturdays night but feel free to bring desserts, cakes and other goodies to share as well as your own drinks. Tea and coffee will be provided.
Accommodation is single sex bunk rooms of a variety of sizes with full bedding provided but not towels.
Saturday and Sunday routes will be discussed with everyone on arrival to ensure we are meeting overall expectations but on this weekend there are many routes we could choose from, so something for everyone.
The cost for new bookings of £114 pp needs to be paid in full when you book either via Meetup in which case a Meetup booking fee is also charged or directly via BACS in which case please let us know so we can manually add you to the event.
Those who originally paid a deposit only now need to pay their balance of £89 pp via BACS which was due by 24th May 2025.

- Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge 2025Horton in Ribblesdale Car Park, Yorkshire
This is such a great day out it's worth doing every year!
It is a MUST event for anyone who takes their walking in the UK just a little bit seriously. Not in quite the same class as the well known UK 3 Peaks Challenge but a tough one nonetheless.
In recent years, it has become enormously popular with groups, individuals, fund raisers and athletes.
The key "challenge" is to complete the 24 mile route over all three hills, Pen y Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough with over 1600m of ascent in less than 12 hours. The fastest recorded time for this is 2 hours 29 minutes 53 seconds which is just amazing. Some will be proud just to finish and rightly so.
It isn't a race but it is a challenge which we'd expect individuals would want to do at their own pace i.e. some not quite so fast as others so our basic plan is to have two groups, toughies who are going for the best time possible i.e. somewhere in the 7-8 hours range and challengers who are happy to have a great day and just complete within the official challenge time of 12 hours.
Whatever time you aim for it's a tough and tiring walk which you need to start early and will likely finish late so in our view overnight accommodation before and after the walk is a great idea.
This year we have this covered by taking an exclusive hire of nearby YHA Ingleton both for people doing the challenge and those aiming for a more leisurely weekend. There are still a handful of places available for this.
https://www.meetup.com/peak-district-meetup-group/events/305151688/
If you are already attending that weekend or are planning to there is no need to sign up here.
There isn't a nearer YHA but Malham is not that far away and local camping too.
It isn't a guided walk but you don't need a guide as a well used path with many people taking part.
It is always good to have the route on your phone in combination with an appropriate mapping app like OS Maps, Outdooractive, Komoot or Anquet/OMN.
http://www.peakmeetupgroup.com/weekends/Y3P/route.gpx
If you don't currently use mapping software why not give it a try. Outdooractive which is the market leader has a 30 day non subscription offer for just £4.14.
- Cumbria Sea to Sea (C2C) Four Day Bike AdventureWhitehaven Railway Station, Cumbria£129.00
JUST ONE FEMALE PLACE LEFT ONLY!
Our now many ATF (Almost Traffic Free) and Coast to Coast bike rides have been tremendous fun and great camaraderie. Whilst these have included classics like the Way of the Roses (Morecambe to Bridlington), Hadrians Wall Coast to Coast and Tarka Trail in the South West we have always had a notion to do the BIG one. The Cumbria Sea to Sea or C2C crossing both the Lake District and the Pennines to travel from Whitehaven in the West to Tynemouth in the East. Easily doable in four days.
Leave your car in Newcastle or Tynemouth and get the train (with your bike) to Whitehaven ready to start the ride at 10:30am from Whitehaven train station. There is a 7:02am train from Newcastle that gets you in at 10:10am or obviously travel the night before and stay over in Whitehaven.
Day 1: We cycle across the Lake District to Keswick aiming to stay at the YHA there which has bike storage facilities. A mere 31.6miles. Yes, there are a few hills!
Day 2: A rather hillier day up and over the Pennines to Alston which is 40.8 miles.
Day 3: Still quite a lot of ascent to take us to the outskirts of Consett. 28.7 miles.
Day 4: Final Day to Tynemouth, mostly downhill! 35.7 miles
Our cost includes 3 nights hostel accommodation but all other costs need to be individually paid for. In the evenings we will eat out at a pub if we can.
Don't forget you need a bike (!) and bike helmet which is obligatory on all group rides. Please also bring a spare inner tube to fit your bike to save time if punctures occur.
The full cost is £129 which you will now need to pay in full when you book either via Meetup in which case their booking fee will also be payable or direct via BACS but please tell us you are doing this so that we can add you to the event manually.
If you have already paid a £29 deposit the balance of £100 is now due via BACS.
