What we’re about
All our day walks should be easily accessible for Manchester, Sheffield, East Midlands, West Midlands, West Yorkshire and many with good rail links even from London and the South.
Browse our Meetup site and you'll find lots of cracking walks and one or two bike rides as well.
We also have a big schedule of low cost weekends away throughout the year summarised at the link below.
https://www.peakmeetupgroup.com/weekends
We're a group for all ages and stages and I guarantee you'll be made very welcome at any of our events.
If unsure about anything please ask.
Although everyone can join our group without charge, we are a a subscription based group which means that rather than make a charge for individual walks or require members to join the Ramblers Association to take part as some walking groups do, we levy a recurring Annual Membership charge of £10 or offer Life Membership for a one off payment of £35 but we allow your very first THREE MONTHS ABSOLUTELY FREE after which you need to make a decision about your continuing membership of the group. (Free period does not apply to re-joining members)
Full details are at:- https://www.peakmeetupgroup.com/membership
Most of our active members have at some point taken out Life Membership of the group but once achieved requires no further membership payments throughout the life of their membership.
We understand that new members may be little uncomfortable at parting with payments no matter how small without knowledge and experience of our lovely group so also give THREE MONTHS UNCONDITIONAL MONEY BACK GUARANTEE from the date of payment on any subscription payments you make.
The kitty we generate through membership payments enables us to offer a massive program of budget weekends away and to pay our Meetup Fees, Liability Insurance and other expenses. All our activities are entirely NOT FOR PROFIT and none of our organisers or walk leaders draws any income whatsoever. Any income surplus is ploughed back into creating new events.
Please note that we do consider it essential for our group where members do meet each other 'live' that new members should use a sensible screen name that they expect to be addressed by and that they are prepared to upload/show a recognisable profile picture of themselves on our Meetup site.

South Manchester Parkrun
Platt Fields Park, Wilmslow Road, Manchester, GBSouth Manchester parkrun happens every Saturday at 9am and everyone can join in. You can run, walk, be pushed or take a dog! All are welcome.
A free, fun, and friendly weekly 5k community event. Walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate – it's up to you!
The average finish time for runners is around 30 mins but you can take as long as you like with plenty of signs and volunteers to make sure everyone finds their way from start to finish.
There's nothing to pay and you don't have to pre-register although the big advantage to doing that is that you get a barcode and this enables you at the end to get your finish time and where you did in comparison to others. It is age graded so you may well get a high position in your age class even if you arrive at the finish well behind many others.
To register for a FREE barcode use the following link. You cannot do that part on the day!
https://www.parkrun.org.uk/register/?eventName=southmanchester
We can grab a post parkrun coffee at the Haus Café and chat to others who have taken part. Show your barcode to get 10% off.
Some of us are planning to do the group ATF bike ride from Debdale Outdoor Centre not far away later but that is entirely optional.
Meet as a group close to the Parkrun start flag by 08:45 so we can look out for each other during and after the run.

Manchester ATF Short or Longer Bike Ride
Debdale Park, Hyde Road, Manchester, GBOur ATF (almost traffic free bike rides) have been providing entertaining and interesting rides away from the madding crowd now for many years.
These have been executed with great success in Nottingham, Derby, South & Central Birmingham, North & Central Birmingham, Walsall & Wolverhampton and Stoke on Trent & Stone. They are all lovely rides with some great people participating and we are certainly now doing them again when we get the chance.
This is a new take on our much loved circular almost traffic free ride in Manchester now in the shape of a figure of 8 so can be taken as a short ride of around 12 miles or a longer ride of around twice that.
We park up close to the Debdale Outdoor Centre close to M60 / J24 with Gorton or Ryder Brow Stations also very nearby.
Some of us are doing the South Manchester Parkrun before the ride so feel free to join in with that. (separate event)
You don't need to be super fit or a regular rider as there are no big hills and we go at a steady pace throughout. We keep road sections to an absolute minimum. Pretty much any bike will do including e-bikes if that's your thing but hybrids are ideal.
Helmets are obligatory on all group bike rides for insurance reasons as well as safety.
There will be plenty of opportunities to stop for refreshments on our route but you should bring fluids, snacks and optionally lunch packup if you feel the need.
Here's a relive of the ride we did in Stoke on Trent so you can see what lovely rides they are.

Mountain Walking Weekend in the Lake District 2025
YHA Buttermere, Buttermere, Cockermouth, GBUP TO THREE CANCELLATION PLACES REMAINING
Surrounded by some of the most idyllic locations in the Lake District, YHA Buttermere could not be better located to exploit high and low level walks in a stunning location.
The imposing house itself is quite amazing as well. Built as a hotel in Victorian times by a then well known historian and author who had written books about local resistance to the Normans in the 12th Century, it became a YHA in 1956 but remains much grander than most other hostel venues we stay in. You can't fail to be impressed!
The walking is very impressive too, with such stunning targets as Pillar, Haystacks, Robinson, High Crag, High Style, Fleetwith Pike, Red Pike, Dale Head etc etc all from straight out of the front door. But also with pleasant lakeside walks for those with a less ambitious agenda. Buttermere has it all!
There is even a "pub" too on this occasion and a farm tea shop so the spot is absolute magic and an opportunity not to be missed.
Friday arrival at our accommodation is from anytime after 6pm but we will lay on a bonus walk for those who can arrive in the area for likely 10:30am to ensure we make the best of the day.
We shall be rustling up a delicious hot meal for Friday night with vegetarian option and poached salmon alternative so no need to eat on the way and although we'll serve up about 8pm, there'll be plenty kept for those arriving a little later. If you require a bevy or three don't forget to bring this with you as it's a long way to the offy!
Help yourself breakfasts and lunch packups are provided as is hot food Friday and Saturdays night but feel free to bring desserts, cakes and other goodies to share as well as your own drinks. Tea and coffee will be provided.
Accommodation is single sex bunk rooms of a variety of sizes with full bedding provided but not towels.
Saturday and Sunday routes will be discussed with everyone on arrival to ensure we are meeting overall expectations but on this weekend there are many routes we could choose which involve steep rocky ascents with some scrambling in places, just what we like! There are plenty of easier routes as well.
If choosing to travel by public transport the nearest mainline stations are Kendall, Penrith or Windermere and we could pick you up from one of those by prior arrangement. There is also a regular bus service from Keswick.
Accommodation is single sex bunk rooms of a variety of sizes with full bedding provided but not towels.
The cost for those booking now of £124 needs to be paid in full when you book via Meetup, to which must be added Meetup booking fees. You can also book direct without Meetup fees using the BACS details below but please let us know you are doing this.
Those who previously paid a deposit now have a balance of £89pp to pay via BACS and as this should have been paid by 15/08/2025 is now overdue.
Account Code: 40848442
Sort Code: 56-00-61
Account Name: Peak Activities & Leisure LimitedFinal balance reminders have been sent.
If you have to cancel with more than 28 clear days notice the full value of the balance payment will be refunded but an amount deducted equivalent to your original deposit or £35 if no deposit paid.. No refunds will be provided to those cancelling with less than 28 clear days notice. ("clear" means does not include event start date or cancellation date!
It would not be possible to provide the range of events we do or to cover the cost of insurance and now increasing Meetup fees if we were not a subscription based group which means paying an annual subscription of £10pa or a Life Membership subscription in which case further payments are not necessary.
If attending our weekends away as an unpaid or lapsed subscriber or as a non member guest you are required to pay an additional £10 when balances become due. This applies to all events starting on or after 1st January 2025
