Hoping to meet a group to talk about all things books and maybe form some lasting friendships.

Have you ever wondered how authors decide to start writing? Join the Pleasanton book club meeting on January 14th to hear the new author talk about his debut book.
BIO: Rohan Srinivasan is a 24-year-old writer from Fremont, California. He holds a bachelor's degree in film and television production from the University of Southern California. AN IMAGINED LIFE is his first novel.
AN IMAGINED LIFE : Eleven-year-old Akash Patil lives happily with his mother and extended family in a small, secluded community on the American East Coast—a haven for South Asian immigrants. However, an unforeseen tragedy in his town sets off a harrowing sequence of events, disrupting the peace within his family and close-knit neighborhood. As Akash struggles to cope with change, he discovers an alluring imaginative ability that allows him to escape his present affliction and relive his most cherished childhood memories. Tracing themes of nostalgia, loneliness, aging, culture, and community, AN IMAGINED LIFE is an ambitious work of modern literature that skillfully exhibits the internal evolution of a young adult while presenting a sweeping tapestry of complex diasporic relationships.

GoodreadsFood for Thought
- What do you think the overall point of Blood Meridian is? Is there any kind of final moral to the story? What is it?
- Do you agree with Judge Holden's views on the universe? Why or why not?
- Does the violence in this book ever get boring? If so, what does that tell us about ourselves?
- Is it fair to say that Blood Meridian is a pessimistic book? Why?
- Is it fair to label Glanton and his men as a bunch of psychopaths, or is it possible for human compassion to be totally gone from some cultures?

- The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov: Inspired by last month's selection, this book depicts a life in the Soviet Russia with the level of accuracy it was considered a banned book throughout the author's lifetime - which, ironically, has some parallel's with the struggles of one of the main characters.
- Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse: a shift from historical fiction into philosophy, explores a concept of belief and man's search for true meaning.
- Circe by Madeline Miller, a comeback from last month's selection by popular demand. A story of a goddess who could not find her place among the gods or man, but keeps trying nonetheless. A search for belonging coupled with typical for Greek mythology family shenanigans.
- Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver, another comeback, the themes of David Copperfield in the contemporary American South. Child labor, survival, poverty and all the other problems that did not get solved since Victorian era.
