What we’re about

Portland Area Widow and Widower Singles 50+ (PAWS 50 Plus) is a Meetup group for single widowed people 50 years old and over who live in Portland and the surroundings areas.  Some of our members are recently widowed while others have been widowed for quite some time.  All are welcome.  All members need to post a close up of their face on their profile to be a member of this group.  The leaders need to be able to know what you look like when you come to one of the events.

PAWS 50+ is a supportive social group. Our goals are to, have fun, openly communicate with one another and to enjoy new friendships.  We will enjoy stimulating conversations and fun times that cover a scope of activities. Some members may want to share their post-loss, moving-on process within this safe, socially interactive environment.  Some members may want to just enjoy the activities while others may enjoy dating other members of the group.  The focus of this group is to offer a supportive atmosphere.  At our age, it doesn’t appear that we have and/or share the same pressing and immediate issues as younger widows and widowers. Being 50+ doesn’t mean that it won't be a challenge dealing with our grief, healing hearts, moving-on, and making new friends and finding companionship.

A few incidents have come up, as they do in any group. Here are some reminders: As the name of the group says, we are single, widows/widowers, and 50 or above. We do not want to monitor this, but please remove yourself if you do not meet this criteria. Everyone has opinions, some are deeply held. We can discuss all sorts of things, but if it gets heated or unpleasant, take the discussion elsewhere, backdown, or walk away. Some people within the group date, others do not. This is not a dating service. We are here to find friends who understand what we have experienced.

We will meet as much as people want - anyone can be a host! Just share your ideas with any organizer, and we will help you get set up. There are many options including restaurants, happy hours, walks, museums, picnics, potluck gatherings, and other suggestions to give us a chance to meet and talk.   Input from members is hightly desired! Sign up, meet up, and let’s have some fun as we walk the healing road, together.
