Going to the movies used to be a thing I did by myself. But lately I've rediscovered how much fun it is to go with friends and to talk about it with them afterwards. So, here we are!
Providence Movie Club is a group where we'll go to a movie and then grab a drink after it's over to hang out and chat. I'm pretty omnivorous with my movie taste, so one week we could see something at the Avon, and the next be front and center at Morbius. Post-movie will change as well and hit bars, coffee shops, breweries, boba tea places, etc.
Don't worry about being a film expert or anything. I imagine conversations will go like most book clubs where you talk about the book for seven minutes and then everyone drops it.

June is shaping up to be an exciting month for Movie Club! On Friday, June 13th, we're partnering with my favorite brewery, Long Live Beerworks, for their annual Summerween event. There will be food trucks, a night market with artists and vendors, and then our portion, which is a screening of 1997's I Know What You Did Last Summer.
After an accident on a winding road, four teens make the fatal mistake of dumping their victim’s body into the sea. Exactly one year later, the deadly secret resurfaces as they’re stalked by a hook-handed figure. You got Jennifer Love Hewitt! You got Sarah Michelle Gellar! You got Ryan Phillippe! You got Freddie Prinze Jr! 90s kids rejoice.
Join us on Friday, June 13th for a 7:00pm screening of I Know What You Did Last Summer at Long Live Beerworks. The screening area will be upstairs. You'll be able to see the stairs right when you walk in. Meet at 6:30pm if you'd like (or earlier) to check out the other things going on for Summerween like the night market. We can meet in the screening area upstairs.
No tickets for this one, but it'll be one of those first come, first served type of things. So probably the earlier you get there the better, especially since Long Live will be promoting on their end as well. I'm sure Long Live will have additional event details as well once we officially move into June. I'll share those when I get them.

Thanks for coming out last month to our mixer at The XO Bar! I'm glad people have been responding positively to that kind of event. For June, I was debating between an event to see Materialists or a mixer. And because the mixers are so popular, I decided to go with that. For June, we're heading to the hidden speakeasy Juniper!
Juniper Bar is in the Rooms & Works building in Providence, near Long Live Beerworks and Knead Doughnuts. The address is 55 Cromwell St. in Providence, and you gain access through the call box. Every week there's a new password. I'll post it in here once I get it, or you can always check out their Instagram account for the password.
As a reminder, there's no movie portion with the mixers. It's just a space to socialize and meet other people. The event will start at 6:00pm at Juniper Bar on Sunday, June 15th. It'll end at 9:00pm. I'll have a pile of name tags on a table for everyone to help differentiate who's there for the mixer and who's just there. Juniper has an outdoor patio area which is where we'll most likely be gathering. Feel free to comment or message if you get lost!

Were you at Kill Bill: Vol. 1 in April and thought, "Boy, Volume 1 was great. I sure wish I could watch Volume 2 now." Ta-da! Kill Bill: Vol. 2 stars Uma Thurman as the Bride, who continues her campaign of revenge against the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad (Daryl Hannah, Vivica A. Fox, Lucy Liu, and Michael Madsen) and their leader Bill (David Carradine), who tried to kill her and her unborn child. Our Volume 1 screening had a really great energy, so even if you missed it, I still recommend coming to this one.
Join us on Wednesday, June 25th for a 7:00pm screening of Kill Bill: Vol. 2 at the AS220 Black Box theater. Doors open at 6:45pm, and we'll start the movie around 7:00ish. For anyone interested, we'll go to the AS220 bar afterwards to hang out (or someplace else downtown depending on the mood).
This is a ticketed event, and tickets are $7 each. You can pay with cash or card at the door. AS220 will soon have a preorder link as well if you want to go down that route. Feel free to drop a comment if you get lost or have any questions. The Black Box theater is located at 95 Empire Street in downtown Providence, to the right of the AS220 bar.
