What we’re about
I am looking for 3-4 players for a beginner friendly D&D game I would like to start and host.
When I write "beginner", this refers primarily to myself: This is my first time as a DM and I want to ensure all players are mostly interested in the fun and the experience rather than in 100% rule compliance. I will surely make mistakes or forget things and might improvise. I will rather take decisions to keep things flowing and exciting for everyone than research and argue about intricacies. So the better you know the basic rules relevant for your personal character, the more you can help all of us :-)
For me it's about the adventure, the roleplaying, the fun and the heroic moments (I come from a time when we would play LARPs before there where official rules or equipment shops - it was all self-made and focussed on common sense and fun). So please no rules nitpicking or min-maxing power gaming at my table. To "win" means all of us had the greatest time. If you are interested in the style that inspires me, it's less Matt Mercer's "Critical Role", but more Robert Hartley's "Viva La Dirt League D&D".
The game is intended to be a short adventure, not a full year-long campaign. It will be set in a homebrew standard medieval-ish high fantasy setting, using the basic D&D 5th edition rules. No need to read any official world lore companions upfront. And while I have an outline for the setting, I will still be able to shape the details to accommodate your character choices once we have discussed them. For now I'd say there are no general restrictions on your choice, as long as it's not absurd.
All players will start at level 1 and then we'll take it from there.
Having said that, this adventure will not require a crazy long commitment, but a regular one: I do expect that we meet every 2 weeks. In my experience longer frequencies usually stretch from intended 4 weeks to 8 weeks and the motivation gradually goes down the drain.
Logistics:
- Location is Rapperswil SG, which is 35 min by train direct from Zurich HB (trains go every 15 minutes)
- Regular dates will be every other Friday, starting at 19:00, playing 4-5 hours
- After having had individual exchanges with the players and decided on the best group composition, we will meet up for a session 0 in a café in Rapperswil to get to know each other and to go over our individual and joint hopes and expectations. This is also when we decide on the actual start date of the game.
- The game will be run in English by default, unless we have only German speaking players or a single player does not speak German. Otherwise it will be run in German.
- No age restrictions from my side, but just to whom it may concern: I am 54
Please get in touch with me and let's talk about your D&D experience level and your ideas for your character.
