What we’re about
Do you want to explore different worlds crafted by different writers, artists, and colorists as you meet new people from the Capital region? Maybe you already read comics and want to discuss them with others.
This group is a monthly meeting where we select two trade paperbacks to read. Trades typically contain 5 to 6 comics, 100 to 120 pages. Hopefully, two trades can provide enough material to sustain a fun conversation and introduce us to a new series. The comics will be randomly selected. We'll write our picks on a piece of paper, or a technological equivalent, and select two trades to read. The following month, the third Wednesday, we'll meet to chat, eat snacks, and select the next trades. Trades and graphic novels will be the formats because they cost $10 to $15. No hard covers; they tend to cost $50 or more.
We will meet at venues around the capital region. Bard and Baker in Troy and Fortress of Gaming in Albany. The latter of which is a sister building of Zombie Planet, a dope comic book store on Central Avenue. (It introduced me to Invincible and Spawn)
So, do you want to explore new comics, chat with new friends, and eat snacks in cool and safe surroundings?

See all- Session fifteen: Sex Criminals Book 1 and Kaya Book 3River Street Market, Troy, NY
Session fifteen has arrived with two trade paperbacks - Kaya Book 3 and Sex Criminals Vol 1. We'll chat about the trades, eat pizza, discuss the highlight of your week, and select trades for session sixteen in February.
Sex Criminals, Vol. 1 TP: One Weird Trick collects #1-5 and Kaya Book 3 collects #12 -17. This is the last trade in Kaya; we'll need to nominate a new trade, so bring at least one trade paperback to nominate for session sixteen.
You have multiple options for acquiring the trades. You can purchase at Barnes and Noble, check them out from a library, buy them at your local comic book store, or use an online source like comixology. Be aware of different versions of the books, such as deluxe editions which may include additional comics. We'll stick to the chapters specified.
We'll meet at the Cluett Room in the River Street Market on Thursday January 16th from 6PM to 730PM. To find the Cluett room, walk through the front doors of River Street Market and continue through the doors facing you. Walk towards the desk and turn left. Two doors will greet you. Walk through the doors and proceed forward until you can't and then turn left. Walk forward and the room will appear on your left.
The Cluett Room costs $50 per session, $25 per hour, which includes cleaning. If you want to donate, your funds will go to the room rental or the meetup renewal, which costs $300 for the year. You can donate via meetup, which takes a cut or send your donation to my venmo.
