What we’re about
Redwood City Social is for those interested in engaging in fun activities such as happy hours, wine tastings, dining at new restaurants, game nights, trivia, museums, movies, live music events and hiking!
We enjoy checking out new hot spots as well as those tried and true venues. Most of our events take place in Redwood City and nearby cities along the peninsula including Mountain View, Menlo Park, Palo Alto, San Carlos, Belmont, Redwood Shores, Foster City, San Mateo, Burlingame and San Bruno.
The three most popular comments that we get from people after events is that they had so much fun, met awesome people and tried out a place that had not been to before.
Profile Photo:
When you join, please upload a profile photo of yourself, as opposed to a cartoon, animal or nature photo. Since attendees are often meeting multiple new people during events, this makes it easier for them to recognize and remember you before and after events.
Disclaimer:
Attend RWCS events at your own risk. By attending any Redwood City Social event, you take full responsibility for your health. Organizers, hosts and participants are not responsible for attendees’ Covid status or health. See all- Purisma Creek Redwoods Hike (Whittermore Gulch to Harkins Ridge Trail)Purisma Creek North Ridge Trailhead (near Half Moon Bay), Redwood City, CA
Let's explore this redwood preserve just a hop, skip, and a jump from aptly named Redwood City. Perched on the western aspect of the Santa Cruz mountains is a 5,400 acre preserve containing second growth coastal redwoods, a bubbling creek, and lush understory of ferns, wildflowers, and berries. If the weather is clear we’ll also enjoy views of the coast and Half Moon Bay. Optional lunch at Alice’s Restaurant afterwards! https://alicesrestaurant.com/
The Deets: We will be starting our hike from the Purisma Creek North Ridge Parking area (Googlemaps Link). There is limited parking so carpooling is encouraged. We will be hiking a 6.5 mile counter-clockwise loop starting on the North Ridge trail to the Whittermore Gulch Trail, down to the Purisma Creek Road parking area and then climbing the Harkins Ridge Trail back to the start. There is approximately 1,600 feet elevation loss/gain. To beat the crowds and find parking try and arrive by 8:30 am. We will start our hike at 8:45 am. We will hike at a leisurely pace to ensure everyone remains together (Think social group, not a race).
Important: Please read the hike description carefully, consider your fitness level, and be prepared for a moderate hike with significant elevation gain on the return. Expect the hike to take around 3 to 3.5 hours.
Gear: It is recommended to bring comfortable hiking shoes or boots (with good tread), at least a 1.5L of water, snacks (fuel), layered clothing with a sweat-wicking base layer, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a map. Maps of the trail are available online at the mid-pen open space website. You can also utilize online maps but be aware cell service may be lacking. Optional items are trekking poles, binoculars, camera.
Carpooling: Drivers and passengers please use the following link to arrange for carpool. Given limited parking spaces at the North Ridge lot I would recommend carpooling if possible. carpool link
