What we’re about
Welcome to the Long Beach Rummy Club!
We're a group of rummy enthusiasts who love playing all kinds of rummy games, from the classics like Gin Rummy and Canasta to new favorites like Rummikub, Five Crowns, and Phase 10.
Whether you're a pro or a newbie, we welcome players of all levels. Don't worry if you're new to rummy - our friendly members are always happy to show you the ropes. Our goal is to create a relaxed and fun atmosphere where players can come together, make new friends, and enjoy their favorite games.
In addition to our regular rummy meetups, we also host open-play events where members can bring any tabletop game and play together. It's a great way to discover new games and share your favorites with others.
So if you're a rummy lover looking for a welcoming group to go out and play with, join us! We'll deal you in for a great time. See you at the next game!
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How often does the Long Beach Rummy Club meet?
A: We strive to meet once a month.
Q: Do I need to know how to play rummy?
A: Nope! We love teaching new players the ins and outs of the game. We have our "Red Book of Rummy Rules", a red binder that contains rules for multiple rummy variants. Not all rummy variants, but many. And the collection keeps growing.
Q: What types of rummy games do you play?
A: We play all kinds of rummy, and we usually decide which game to play at the meeting. However, we may have a meeting or special event focused on a particular variant or even non-rummy-based games from time-to-time.
Q: What if we have too many people to play in one game?
A: No problem! We'll break into groups and play different games simultaneously.
Q: Is food and drink included?
A: Unfortunately not, but we typically meet at restaurants or cafes where everyone can buy their own food and drinks.
Q: Do I have to pay a fee to play or be a member?
A: Not at all! We're just a group of rummy enthusiasts for rummy enthusiasts. We do not charge any fees to play or be a member.
Q: Can I bring a friend?
A: Absolutely! We even encourage it! We're always excited to have new players join in the fun.
Q: What ages attend the meetings?
A: We have a diverse community and welcome players of all ages.
Q: Are there any prizes for winning?
A: While we don't typically offer any official prizes, the ultimate prize is the satisfaction of winning.
Q: Can I suggest a meeting location?
A: Yes! We're always open to suggestions for new locations.
Q: Do I need to RSVP?
A: It's appreciated if you can but it's not mandatory. It's helpful to us if you RSVP so we know how many people to expect. This will allow us to ensure we have enough space for everyone.
Q: Can I join if I don't live in Long Beach?
A: Absolutely! We welcome players and fans from all over.
Q: Is the Long Beach Rummy Club family-friendly?
A: Yes! We welcome people of all ages, but some games we play may have more complex rules that could be challenging for younger children. Use your judgment in deciding whether or not to bring your children.
Q: Are there any kid-friendly games or activities?
A: While we do not have any specific child-friendly games or activities, we do have a copy or two of Phase 10 available which is a great option for younger players. Additionally, we can modify the rules to most rummy variants to accommodate younger players, but there are limits to those modifications. We recommend children understand basic math in order to play effectively. If your child needs extra help with math, we suggest that parents play alongside them to provide guidance and support. However, using a calculator is permitted, and we typically have one available to use by any player. We do not, and will not, judge anyone - regardless of age - for using a calculator.
Q: Can I leave my child unattended?
A: We encourage parents to stay with their children, especially if they're younger. But if you need to step away for a moment, make sure your child is supervised by an adult you trust.
Q: Is there a dress code?
A: We don't have a formal dress code, but please dress appropriately for the venue. Generally, just come as you are, and lets have some fun!
Q: Do I need to bring anything like a deck of cards?
A: Nope! We've got you covered. We typically have 12 or more decks of cards available, along with limited copies of some commercial rummy variants. However, if you want to bring your own deck or a special game, you're more than welcome to do so. Just keep in mind that there is always a risk of it getting damaged, lost, or stolen. So it's best to leave any valuable or sentimental items at home. Like that $2 million diamond-encrusted Rummikub set your grandmother left you in her will. Don't risk it!
