What we’re about

Our Story: At the heart of this group is a social circle forged in the “50’s & 60’s Fun Times Meetup Group” (shout out to Cyndi!!!) beginning in 2019, as well as a couple of other Salem Meetups at the time. Unfortunately our fun times ended due to the pandemic, and the original Meetup didn’t survive.

In early 2022, several of us happily bumped into each other in a new Meetup, and our core group expanded as we met fabulous new friends. Eventually, the entire entourage migrated to another new Meetup. Now here we are, wiser and even more highly seasoned, ready to bust out and let the fun times begin again! Our activities are varied, and have included walking & hiking; winery tours & tastings; restaurant meals & Happy Hours; movies, theater and musical performances and festivals; gatherings at members’ homes; athletic events; book group; bowling; trivia and games; field trips to area attractions; uh, I think that’s enough for now…

We are interested in expanding our community of mature and responsible adults, some of whom have lots of time for socializing and amusing themselves. We are navigating the next phase, redefining the stereotypes of older, as we create community and connect with each other. We celebrate our commonalities and learn from our differences. We are welcoming and inclusive, and promote a culture of consideration and kindness. Above all, we have fun and enjoy being together.

We are excited to welcome new members into our community, and, just so you know, we do have a few rules, which are required reading, as well as the Assumption of Risk; Waiver of Liability; Release; Indemnification; Covenant Not to Sue. We look forward to seeing you at our next event!

Membership Rules

  • 1. Age 55+, unless individually approved by the Organizer
  • 2. Members must post their real first name and a clear, close up, relatively current facial photo on their group profile.
  • a. If you share the same first name as another member, please add a last initial (doesn’t need to be real), so we can distinguish you.
  • b. Let the Organizer know if you prefer not to have a photograph that may have been taken of you during an event to be posted. Privacy is important to us, so if you find your image has made it into the photo albums, contact the Organizer and it will be removed, no questions asked.
  • 3. RSVP policy: Do not sign up for an event unless you are reasonably sure you can attend. If you sign up for an event, then decide you won’t be attending, you must immediately update your RSVP to “Not Going.” If you are a “no-show” for 2 events, that Event Host may remove you from their events for a minimum of 30 days. A third “no-show” may result in your removal for 60 days or longer. Same-day cancellations will be considered “no-shows.”
  • a. Members who demonstrate a pattern of late cancellations, or who sign up and cancel frequently, risk being removed from the group. We understand that life happens and plans change; we only require that members exhibit respect and consideration for the Event Host and other Attendees.
  • b. Events where the Event Host has made advance reservations, or purchased a block of reserved seats, have stricter requirements: i) you must reimburse the Event Host for any ticket purchased on your behalf, whether you attend the event or not, and ii) you must change your RSVP to “Not Going” at least 48 hours in advance for an event that has a waiting list, and/or when reservations have been made at the venue (allowances only at the discretion of the Event Host).
  • 4. It is not permitted to just show up for an event if you are not on the “Going” list.
  • 5. Be early or on time for the event, and be prepared. Read the entire event description, and click on any link to additional information, BEFORE signing up and/or posting a question in the “Comments” section.
  • 6. Our Organizers and Event Hosts are volunteers who spend significant amounts of time researching, posting and managing events, as well as running the group as a whole. It is absolutely necessary that you show respect and gratitude for their work and their rules, or risk being removed from the group. The Organizer and Event Hosts have the right to remove anyone who signs up for an event, for reasons including: jeopardizing the safety of self or others during a previous event, leaving disrespectful public comments, history of showing inconsideration in signing up and canceling, showing a negative attitude or stirring up drama at a previous event, or simply not being a good social fit for a particular Event Host. No one is entitled to a spot in an event, solely because you are a member and managing to grab a spot every time.
  • 7. Our group is focused on socializing with new and long-time friends. Although some closer relationships may develop naturally, this is not a dating site or singles group. We’re very serious about creating a safe environment that is comfortable for all attendees. If for any reason you feel uncomfortable as the result of unwanted and/or inappropriate advances, or you observe someone overstepping any boundaries, please bring this to the attention of the Event Host or Organizer through private messaging. Anyone who displays behavior inappropriate to the group’s purpose risks revocation of their membership.
  • 8. Carpooling: If an event includes the opportunity to carpool, plan to contribute to the driver for gas and vehicle expenses.
  • 9. There is a 60-day free period, after which Meetup will charge you a non-refundable $5 annual membership fee. Alternatively, you may pay the Organizer in cash prior to the end of your free period. If you choose not to pay, Meetup will automatically remove you from the group at the end of the 60 days, or at your annual renewal date. This contribution is mainly to cover the cost of using Meetup and its financial vendor. Any excess beyond that amount will be reinvested in the group, for example, to cover facility rentals, meeting supplies, etc. Every dollar will be accounted for, and the Organizer will be happy to share the details.
